Hard to rate this book because it was so depressing. Dolores goes through a lot, but the end felt hopeful.

This is one of my very favorite books and Wally Lamb is my favorite writer I’ve read from so far. This was such a beautiful story from start to finish I couldn’t put it down! My mother in law recommended this and I felt closer to her by reading it. Everything was layered with meaning but not in a hard to read pretentious way. I felt like I had a better understanding of life, and the meaninglessness of it all, and it makes everything that feels confusing, feel okay. loved. 5-star 100%.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It's awfully depressing and reminds me of work but it definitely kept me interested to the end.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be annoyed with a nasty mean, self-centered victim as the protagonist. It's an easy read, so I kept reading...waiting for the story to get better. It really doesn't.

Not everything has to have a silver lining or a happy ending, but to read through an account of someone’s entire life without a single period of happiness was d e p r e s s i n g. Yes, we all have tragedies in our lives that we can relate to but when reading about them I’d like to come out feeling better about it somehow, not worse. It also didn’t feel right reading a book about a girl’s/woman’s struggles written by a man, especially when many of her problems resolve around sexual experiences. The book was well written, and I get what Lamb was going for, but I would never recommend this to anyone.

Not typically my type of read as it took me a while to get through the book. Very transformative story but also plain sad.
