Quite the page turner! Dark and mysterious and quite twisted. Heed the content warnings.

A waste of time. Bland story, awful cast of characters, and way too much potty humor for what the story tried to be. Also sounds like it was written by an only child who has never seen siblings interact.

Cliff hangers are such a lazy tool to end a “ooh but what WAS the big spooky thing!!!” story. So much shock value, little content. Gross but not in an interesting way.

I had heard such good things about this book, but it wasn't for me. Granted, I finished it in two sittings, but it's fairly short and mostly dialogue so that's not saying much.
The very end is compelling but you have to sift through 90% of the book being fart and butt jokes (to the point it's far outside the realm of realistic for the child character).
It's more shock horror and body horror than anything else when you do get horror, but mostly it's just listening in to a deeply disfunctional family and that's not fun to me personally.

This was an intense read, and well-written, but I am mildly traumatized and refuse to believe the events as relayed by the unreliable narrator. Also, and potential spoiler, but
I find it hard to believe a family could simply sit and starve to death for days before thinking to chip away at the door with a sharp object.
. Regardless of how much it upset me, the book was definitely well done. I'd recommend it, with reservations.
