Zora Neale Hurston is an incredible writer. Her sentences are a joy, there were so many times that I had to stop to make a note of a particular few words that just jumped off the page. Already planning to reread

This book offers a poignant exploration of Black life during Jim Crow. While the writing is beautiful and the central character is compelling, the narrative occasionally falters with the inclusion of nested stories.
All in all, it’s a worthwhile read for those interested in historical fiction and themes of identity, self discovery and resilience.

i originally rated this unfairly low bc i was salty we had to read it for school
haven't reread it since so i don't remember a thing but i think i respect this book a lot more!
fun book story we were on some island in rural washington and went to a used book store that was quite literally just piles of books in little-to-no discernible order and found a copy of this book that was donated from a tribal library that shut down :( and also had the first chapter twice because one was cut out and glued in a second time from a completely different copy of the book. why? idk but it was a cool find

This is a 4.5. I listened to it on audio and Ruby Dee is the reader..more like a one woman show.

This book was really interesting and I like how the author tied the beginning and end together so seamlessly. My only issue is the dialogue was difficult to read due to the time period/location of the story.
