I really loved this book! Intergenerational, disabilities, complex family dynamics. I think a lot of students would resonate with it. Written in verse.

A sweet, children's novel written in verse. There is a diverse cast of characters (including a strong female protagonist, not without her flaws) and a positive, overall message. I have now recommended this book to a number of my students.

I loved this sweet and hopeful novel in verse. Macy and Iris learn and grow together, and Macy learns to embrace change as part of her story. A great read for early middle graders!

This was a perfect spring read. New friendships and old ones too. New beginnings and chapters. Mixed up feelings and finding your way through them all. 12/10. Read this book.
Also definitely cried unexpected (good) tears at the end.

This book is pretty heart-warming, but it's totally riding on the coattails of better books. If you take away all the references it's a much flimsier story.

Also, it's poetry that totally isn't poetry. Just sentences broken up into lines. It's actually just a short story that takes up 233 pages.

And the title totally fails to clue you in on what this book is about: a 12 year old making friends with an old lady. But this is forgivable because the old lady is the Rainbow Goddess and she's adorbs.

It's a decent story. I think it could have been even better, but it's still pretty good.
