This installment started off a little rushed and disorganized. There was a whole plot point that didn't feel like it belonged and didn't seem to add to or alter the main plot at all. By the halfway mark, it was back up to the quality that was given in the first books.

Baldair though! Every once in a while, there comes a character in a book that you just absolutely fall in love with!
SpoilerSo, naturally, he dies! I was devastated and had to stop reading the book for a little while. The loss of Aldrick and Vahlla's bond was very interesting and I hope that in the next book, it's as much of a hurdle as it should be. It would be very disappointing if it was just a minor bump in the road to add spice to this book.

Oh, I really enjoyed this one!

I liked how Vhalla focused more on herself and what she wanted. There were more plot lines than the other books and I read this pretty quickly after the last book.
I'm upset that Elisa Kova did break my heart a little and I for sure got teary eyed. But one thing that ruined it for me was. That after everything with her magic and her finally learning how to use it like she wants to,
Spoiler ITS GET FUCKING TAKING AWAY.
I really really hate this trope and it better get fixed in the next book, Otherwise I will be so disappointed.

Rating: 4,0 stars.

Honestly so confused on how I feel about this book!! The first three in the series were 5 star reads. The pacing and writing and plot twists and everything we’re absolute perfection. And this one was still really good. The pacing and stuff just felt a little weird maybe? Like the action and stuff at the beginning with the knights of Jadar was so interesting but then it was just over? It felt really rushed. Like I wanted to see more of Valla and Jax being bad ass together and their friendship forming and doing more against the knights instead of just being taken down right away. And then Jax was just alive?? But didn’t try and go after her even though it was obvious she was kidnapped? And Valla never mentions to Aldrik that he gave her a vessel that saved her? And then I loved that it was so easy for them to get back together and I loved all the sweet moments between them. But the middle just dragged. It felt wayyyyy too long like either more plot driven things needed to happen there or maybe not as many fluff parts. I cried so hard when Baldair died though, and the fact he was going to take over the throne broke my heart. Valla actually annoyed me a little in the book for once because for how much she preaches that she hates secrets and no one can keep secrets from her, she sure kept a lot of her own. I feel like a lot of the victor stuff could have been avoided is she just trusted people and talked about what was happening. I loved all of Aldriks growth though! He’s such a dreamboat! Their final reunion after Baldairs death was beautiful. And the ending scene in the crystal caverns where Valla died and lost her magic and the bond was broken was heartbreaking but again, it felt rushed! Like I wish it would be taken up more than just the last 15 percent of the book. I feel like it could have been done a little bigger if that makes sense? Obviously we know Valla is gonna get her magic back though so I’m excited to see how that happens! Idk all in all I liked the book and love the series, just felt like this one was weird pacing wise and maybe not everything was put together as perfectly as the other ones.

I finished it, and for a minute there I thought I wouldn't.

This book made me so angry, I don't understand why Baldair had to die. While I was reading those chapters I kept thinking to myself, she's not going to kill him off is she ? And for what? To push our two main characters back together? To force Aldrik to finally share his stupid secret that I figured out 100 pages prior?

I'm not a writer, I'm not an expert, I'm just a person that reads a lot, but there has to be another way for you to promote character growth then though them losing someone they love....

I've been enjoying this series a lot, but after this pointless death I realized a pattern, each time Vhalla progressed as a character was after someone died. It's like that's the only way this author knows how to let her characters grow.

I'm going to finish this series, I'm too invested not to, but I need a break before I dive into the last book.

This was an incredible disappointment .

I used to really like this series but it has gone down for me. The plot is lacking and some characters are becoming more insufferable. So I won't finish this series.

My heart broke a lot in this installment. There is even more heartache than previous books but I am hopeful the final book will stitch it all back together.

I’m loving getting to know Jax more. He has a lot of comedic moments, but a lot of darkness as well. Aldrick is really growing and it makes me love our prince even more.

I had a feeling our twist in this book was heading the way it was, but man it still was rough watching it all go down. Cannot wait to see how Vhalla’s story ends... and who makes it there.
