Audrey is a coder, she loves her computer, even named it! When it's announced that there is a competition for designing an app for the buyPhone she is all over it. She decides that maybe there should be an app to help a girl find a boyfriend. All a girl would need to do is download the app, answer a survey and when she was within five miles of her match the app would alert her. Oh and did I mention that she could get a 200,000 dollar scholarship. Since her dad died that money would help her go to any school she wanted to go to! One day she drops her phone and it breaks. She keeps hearing this buzzing sound. Finally she figures out its coming from her phone. She takes it home and finds out that its a buzz or a frequency that makes you feel happy or in love, like the same way your brain reacts to dopamine. Its also a feature that makes you buy more apps or music for your buyPhone. Since her boyfriend app is kinda on the down swing she decides to try to use this for her own advantage. Boy does it work and I'm so glad this app doesn't actual exist. It would be a mad house!

I really enjoyed reading this story. I couldn't put it down and read it very fast. I thought that the areas that explained coding were a little bit to get in to. I also felt that sometimes the descriptions of the area and what was going on were too much. All in all though I would recommend this book to everyone! There is a special boy Aiden, in this story that I just loved. He was probably my favorite character! Check it out!!

It was a fun book, though I think the ending dragged a bit too much. For me the book was over when the contest ended. Instead the book kept on going and going. :( So -1 star for that.

I read this because my daughter read it. Not my usual cup of tea, but it was all right. I'm sure this is a great book for teenage girls, though, and that's the intended audience.

The Boyfriend App really takes a while to get to its premise. When it does, it happens very suddenly and changes the tone of the book. It goes from a normal coming-of-age story, with all it's assorted dramas, to a dystopian sci-fi with mind-control and an
Spoilerevil corporation's shadowing dealings
. I didn't hate it, but it was a really big shift for one book to take nearly mid-way through.

Think of your typical campy summer romance and you will find The Boyfriend App. Audrey's father died a few years ago and her mother is struggling to make enough to pay the bills. If Audrey wants to go to the college of her dreams, she will need to rely on her own talents. When Public (the book's version of Apple/Microsoft) hosts an app contest, Audrey works to create an app that will win her a scholarship to pay for her dream college (Notre Dame). The Boyfriend App is more than your typical dating app. In general this was a nice light read. However, I totally cringed when the Public scandal and intrigue were added in the second half of the book. I felt that it took away from the original story, which would have been great on its own. Also the computer hacking descriptions become way too detailed and very hard to follow at times. Overall the book was good though. The mindset of most of the characters resembles the teenie boppers and would be a perfect recommendation. If you are a belieber or a directioner, this book will be perfectly enjoyable for you. However, I must warn all impressionable children that you must only use your power for good (even when Audrey forsakes all of her staunch morals to use her powers for evil emotional manipulation (which seems waaaayyyy out of character for her))
