I feel like this book tried to do too much. I still thoroughly enjoyed the wild ride, but sometimes it was too fast for me.
Graphic: Animal death and War
Moderate: Child abuse, Violence, and Grief

When I reread Uglies earlier this year, I was frustrated by how Tally is essentially a different character in every book. While it makes sense with the constant invasive surgeries, it was annoying. I hated the Tally of Specials and Extras.
I was nervous that Tally would be reappearing in this book, as I didn't have a clue what to expect of her character wise. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed her in Youngbloods. She felt much more cohesive to me, and even if I thought some of her actions were ridiculous they at least made sense from a character standpoint.
Outside of Tally, I enjoyed the book in general too. It's definitely not perfect but I'm relatively satisfied with how things have ended. I'll always want more books in this universe and I'll always have unanswered questions. At this point, I'm okay with that.

I don't know how to feel about this book. I was really excited for Tally's return and I think that might've been my problem. They mention don't meet your heroes, and as we're coming at this from the perspective of Frey, it seems like that message was for us, but I still love Tally and had already spent 3 books getting to know her. I also was hoping that she and Shay would've worked through a bit more of their issues by now. I don't remember Extras well, but they seem to still be in the same place however many years later. Frey says she's the Shay of her and her sister's relationship which I guess means "I don't really like you, but we're gonna work together for the greater good"? I kinda wish we had more of her actually talking to her sister or seeing a bit more of her perspective so the ending didn't seem so much of a downer.

Full offense, what the fuck was this?
What a convoluted, confusing story that was a complete waste of Tally Youngblood's time.
I think I'ma reread the original Uglies arc and pretend this doesn't exist.

This one was definitely the best of the series. Maybe having Tally in it made it more nostalgic for me? I think Tally always seemed more like a real person to me. And I don’t think Frey did till this last book, and then, just maybe. But Tally to me was always raw, and never prepared for anything. And that is what I think made the Uglies series so special.
