Similar to Aj, I adore when we find books at the moment in time when we need them most. I am so thankful for Gabrielle Zevin and her beautiful words for giving me something to believe in, and reminding me why I love reading

This book isn’t perfect but the characters are so well executed and it’s all a very plausible life depiction of the title character and the characters around him that are his nearest and dearest. I would heartily recommend this book to anyone.

Okay so,

What the fuck is wrong with Gabrielle Zevin.  This book was absolutely beautiful, however I don't know if I would ever have picked it up knowing the ending.  Despite the horrifically sad events in this book, it is incredible.  I had a feeling things were going too well for it to end happy, but I didn't think it would be like this.  The sick irony of it all is that my book club picked this book for our "happy ending" prompt.  Although I can see how this is, in fact, a happy ending I was just so attached to A.J. to feel happy.  Overall I am so happy to have found this book, it quickly made its way in to my top books of all time (thus far).  I believe later (much later) after I have nursed my wounds I will return to this book again and again.

My main takeaway is to read more Gabrielle Zevin books. She writes with great detail yet it remains concise and under 300 pages i think? Started and finished it in one day. I probably would have cried if I had slowed my reading and let myself think about the story more before going back to it. So many twists in this. A romance, single dad story and mystery all in one.
