This was an easy to read memoir. I appreciated his story and his voice.

DNF… dragged its feet too much. Maybe some day I will resume it

This book was quite the experiance of culture, although I'm not sure that I would recommend it. The style of writing did not at all keep me motivated to keep reading. I had dearly hoped that I would enjoy this book. No such luck.

More early autobiography than memoir, so while interesting and reflective, it didn't generate the enthusiasm of a 4-star read for me. I had to speed up the audiobook to make it sound more like presidential Obama, too; it hardly sounds like him at 1X!

I was given this book shortly after reading the Audacity of Hope, 9 long years ago. And in 9 years it's remained pretty much untouched. Not through a lack of desire to read, because as American Presidents go Obama is the greatest and most interesting in my lifetime. Its just I never found the right time to start it and those times that I did pick it up I just couldn't get into it and something else always got in the way.
Now it's done though and I enjoyed it a lot.
Obama is a good writer and he is easy to read. What he has to say about the nature of mixed race identity is interesting. Having said this it does drag a little at times. Definately worth 4* though.
