(Read as Single Issues)
While I've grown to love Hal in Justice League runs and his appearances in other titles, I've been reluctant to pick up an actual Green Lantern title because I don't do space anything (comics, novels, movies, etc.). It's just not my thing. But I knew I needed to try because I do really love that cocky yet sincere test pilot (Hmm ... cocky, sincere, green ... I'm realizing I may have a type.)

And I'm so glad I picked this one up. Clearly, I'm missing information from previous volumes, but I didn't care. This volume sets up the major players and setting without tripping over its own feet with backstory. I do so love Hal. And I'm super intrigued by Soranik now too.

My only complaints? One, clearly Hal won't stay dead. I mean, his name is in the title. And I so wish DC would quit killing him and Wally West off repeatedly and needlessly. Don't get me wrong, I want to keep them even if that means that have to be resurrected again and again, but really ... the writers could just stop killing them off every other month. And two? Lyssa, man, I hope she is dead. Because she is everything I hate in comic women.

Other than that, bring on volume 2!

The first four issues I wasn't too invested and didn't really care, but once I got to issue 5 for me it started to get better. Really enjoyed the final battle issue. Interested to read more. Will say not the best place to start for new readers as it can be confusing at times if you don't have a basic understanding of the characters and lore.

mixed opinions but on balance I liked it. Hal is quite a cool character and the concept that you are only limited by your imagination is rather interesting.
Hal Jordan allows himself to be a scapegoat but he also took a powerful gauntlet that enables him to survive, the cost is high but it might be the only way to take Sinestro down.  Sinestro's corps are ruling with fear and he has to be stopped and Hal fears he's the only one, but there are more and together they may be able to overcome the odds.

It drew me in and kept me reading, I suspect a second go-around may colour my opinion.

I will attempt to be gentle here so bear with me, but to give you an idea of how little I enjoyed reading this comic I'll start by saying that it vacuumed away all my will to remain conscious and I fell asleep in between issues.

I've never read or seen anything with the Green Lantern characters previously, and disappointingly I don't feel this is the best starting place for people new to their world since I was confused until I got to the point where I largely quit caring. The protagonists failed to leave me with a good first impression, which was heftily the fault of the cheesy dialog. Maybe the characters are purposely written to sound ridiculous and their phraseology is some sort of slightly endearing running gag, but from this vantage point it's impossible to determine if that's the case.

The only part of these issues that I did happen to like was some of the art, it pushed the scenes to an almost achievable level of being powerful and dynamic that I wish the writing had been able to uphold.

Hal's reaction at the end of this comic was golden.
