This book was so good. The Trudeau twins did not come to play especially Cris. I loved the way this story was told and enjoyed both Cris and Clem’s journey on uncovering the truths of their family. It was literally never a dull moment. I really enjoyed the experience of reading about a black powerful magical family who was about their community and protecting their birthrights. I am excited to see what’s to come in the next book as many aspects were left in a cliffhanger and i just need to know how what happened with those situations.

This was great! I struggled with it at first but I think that was just a me thing; when I picked it up today at 45% I fell into it and finished it pretty much in one sitting. The MCs are two teenage gen magic practitioners who discover that their deathly ill mother has been magically cursed, and their investigation into who is responsible turns into a quest to right a terrible wrong done to their family years ago. It was fast paced and exciting, well written. I like the magic system and there are just enough untied strings to really get me hyped for the sequel.

Feels more for a young YA audience. The internal monologue is very plain, no depth or interest. Telling you vs. showing you. I would love to read a book set in New Orleans that explores their magic and history! I think I just need one for an adult audience.

Oh. The cover looked so amazing.
Yet again, I was tricked into picking up a YA book. Luckily, the super whiny mc made that clear from the get go.
I think I will not rate this book, because I am Def not the intended audience for it.
