this was a bit of a pallet cleanser from all the fantasy that i’ve been reading. it was nothing too special but it was fun. i will say that there were some contradictions throughout the book but nothing big.

Two of my favorite authors wrote an amazing book. Constantine and Claire's story was wonderful. It held mystery and so many twist and turns. I couldn't put this book down. I loved every minute of this book. I hope they write more together. I am loving the books coming out of the Underworld Kings.

I'm a sucker for a mafia romance so obviously I just had to read this. I liked the synopsis and really wished it had just given a little bit more of what I thought it was going to be. Was a great book in general and a quick read, definitely will reread this in the future when I'm in the mood for this type of book. I would recommend it for beginning/middle readers of mafia romances

Trigger Warnings: Dub-con, Violence, Death, and mild BDSM tones

We are getting so spoiled this month with not one but two releases from Sophie and let me tell you we are already off to a fiery start with this one.

The story starts with Constantine in jail for a murder he didn’t commit. He’s angry and hellbent on finding whoever frame him for it. But first he’s got to get out from behind bars. Being the only heir to the Bratva has its perks and Constantine doesn’t plan to stick around long enough to let his enemies get a hold of him while he’s incarcerated.

Clare is just starting her new job as a correctional psychologist and Constantine is her first patient. While he’s reluctant to cooperate with a mandated mental health evaluation he’s intrigued by this innocent bright woman who has foolishly put herself on his radar. When he finds out about her real identity he knows he can use that to his advantage. Clare gets swept up in a search for justice she never asked to be a part of but once she’s in Constantine’s gravity she cannot help but he pulled in. As hard as she fights she cannot help but submit to him. Can they work together to prove his innocence and bring the guilty party to justice? And even if they do avenge the murder can they find a future together with their opposing pasts?

I was gripped by this story from start to finish. I had to tear myself from my kindle just to get some sleep. This story consumed me. I needed to know what was going to happen next. And the heat you guys. This is next level kink and steam compared to Sophie’s other books. There is a ton of spicy scenes that will leave you needing to cool down! Clare is such an interesting dichotomy as a professional woman defying her parents for the first time while also thriving off of the thrill of submitting to Constantine. The evolution of their relationship was perfectly paced and again it’s hot as hell.

If you’re looking for your next hot mafia romance to read then look no further!

This book was disappointing to me. It seemed very messy and had a weak plot. The only reason it’s a 2 star and not a 1 star is because there were some good possessive male moments and the writing was fairly decent.

First I want to talk about their encounters when Constantine is still in prison. I’m not sure if I missed some information, but it was very confusion how long Clare was seeing him during this time, and how Constantine just unrealistically escaped. Usually when I’m reading a book I can picture what is happening fairly clearly in my mind but that whole part of the book was just very confusing and unclear. Also it’s seems both the FMC and MC have a lie detector super power because they both “just know” when the other is lying or telling the truth and 100% believe them at face value… when they’ve know each other for like a day… but I digress.

Her “go with the flow” attitude was way too unrealistic. Oh you’re kidnapping me? Cool. Oh you want to kill my father? Sure, here’s the code to his house. Even when he basically forced himself on her and has disrespected her more than not, she explains that it’s okay because she’s never felt more safe than when she’s with him… WHAT?! This man has does nothing but cause you harm and openly spoken about planning to kill you’re father but you’re okay with it because you just believe what he’s saying? It makes no sense. She is taking the word of this criminal who once again kidnapped her and has shown her his life of crime (who, by the way, she’s only been with by this point for barely 24 hours!) over common sense! He could easily be manipulating her to get access to her father (which she willingly gives just so she can have an orgasm he forced upon her). She never once even questions or has reservations about being involved with a guy like him who openly shared that he’s a killer and not a good guy. She is supposed to be a psychologist but I don’t think she uses her brain once throughout this entire book. This is all only around the 12% mark and honestly pulled me out of the story.

The rest of the book was a jumbled mess of outlandish situations. It was hard to follow the story, and the reasonings behind some people’s motivations didn’t really make sense. I’m not someone who would lower a rating of a book just because I guessed correctly what happened or who the bad guy was in the end but this book may as well have a flashing sign saying “this is the rat” with how obvious it was. However, there was a confusing redemption moment (but not really) at the end and was just one of the many parts that was a bit random and unrealistic.

Overall, I found this book is definitely not for me with its confusing and scattered ideas and ludicrous plot/characters. But if none of my issues with the book bothered you then you may like this book.

I very much enjoyed Clare & Constantine's story as well as watching the characters evolve through out the book. Clare is the naïve phycologist who got her first job working in a prison & Constantine is an inmate that quickly wants to see how far he can push her. The more he pushes, the more it seems that Clare will rise to the challenge and I was here for it!

I loved the plot, it had me glued to my iPad and my Phone until I got through it. I was reading this everywhere, on breaks, at the bus stop, in line at the grocery store... basically I couldn't get enough of it. I thought the characters had great chemistry and the tension between them was palpable.

This author pairing was definitely a match made in mafia romance heaven and I hope they will write together again in the future!

*I received an advanced copy of this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own*

Intense and steamy

I love all mafia style romance and some just hit better than others. Sophie Lark I’m very familiar with, however Jane Henry, is a “new-to-me” author. This duo made this short read intense and steamy from start to finish. I recommend this book if you are okay with mafia/dark romance. 4.5/stars

Been in a terrible reading slump and I’m just looking for a book to get me out of it. Usually smut does the trick but I feel like I’ve read most of the good stuff. I have been spending more time browsing for something to read than actually reading.

DNF at 57%. I give up at this point.
