4.5 With great trepidation I started another series. I am suffering from series drag. Several of my series have just gone past their shelf life and muddled into the dull zone. I blame these authors that drag a good thing till it's nothing but trash. When this came up for early review i declined it. Then is came to the library and I just wanted to read a few pages. Still I held it for a week before I picked it up. Holy frozen world, I wish I had given it a shot earlier. The blurb on the book was terrible compared to the book.
The book started with a Vegas card dealer, Nat. She is looking to escape this world frozen under ice to a mystical utopia called The Blue. Her world is filled with starvation, cold, fear and death. She hides her true identity, she is one of the marked. The marked have special abilities, and are taken out of society and used or killed. The propaganda of the government has humans fearing them. One day a beautiful boy steps up to her table and tries to con her but ends up changing her life.
Wes is an ex military, survivalist, con man and hired gun. He has a crew of men he is trying to keep alive. The dealer at the casino, saw his con and ended up coning him. He is intrigued when she wants to hire his crew to The Blue. This girl attracts him, there is something about her. She is money which is survival, he take the job.
The world is frozen, the greenery is gone, life is held in sealed pockets for the wealthy to enjoy. Pirates, Smugglers, Slavers, and Flesh sellers run the outskirts. The inner cities are run by a totalitarian militant government. The Seas are black poisons, with floating islands or trash. Food and clean water are rare.
The journey is dangerous, deadly and bleak. The crew faces death and themselves. There are discoveries of new life, misunderstandings and even some hope. The world is not what the government has drilled into their heads the real world is a complex and beautiful place even with the destruction around them.

This had all the right levels of intrigue, romance, action, horror, adventure to keep me reading through the night. I even talked about it to my friends, family and some poor guy at the coffee shop who probably though I was crazy. It was just so 'cool' and there was so much to share as it related to our world. My nerd loving light is flaring, it lightly reminded me of a Star Trek movie.

I had received this book as part of a goodreads giveaway
Wow! this book is just wow. I loved it, i felt it was beautifully put together. I loved every aspect of this book.

Frozen is about a girl named Nat who wants to get out of New Vegas and find the blue, just like the voice in her head is nagging her to do. The only problem is that the blue isn't suppose to exist. All of the land is covered in ice, no where is free from the frozen tundra, so how can a place like the blue where everything as we know it exists. With the help of Wes and his crew, Nat goes on a journey to find the blue, go thing unthinkable hardships along the way.

So yea, i'm once again in love with another book. The only thing i wasn't to excited about was the beginning, i felt that I was just thrown head first into a pool and had to learn to swim, or in this case a frozen pool. I wasn't completely sure what was going on at MacArthur and when the explosion at the casino happened i was very confused. To me the explosion should have been a bigger deal than it was, but everyone just went around like it was an every day..which it just might have been.

I loved the connection between Wes and Nat, they both clearly liked each other, they just didn't want to admit it. They just kept wanting to tell themselves that they don't feel anything, and that the other person is only acting as is to trick them. Its not till they almost lose each other that they really come to terms with their feelings.
I also loved Shake as well, i felt he brought fun and happiness to these dark times on Earth.

All in all i found this to be an exciting, fast paced book. My heart was literally pounding at some points. I'd recommend this book to just about anybody wanting an awesome read.

I received an e-copy of this book from Net Galley.

While I liked this book, I found that it was a little slowly paced. There was a lot of information in the end that is making me hope that it gets better and more action packed. I didn't really care for it being written in "Textlish." It gave me a headache and made it really hard to read. I would have preferred a few examples and then it being written normally. I was also hoping there'd be a little more explanation on the magic, but considering that Nat didn't know exactly who she was, I can look over this. I hope there will be more magic in the second book.

Overall it was a entertaining and a decent read. I'll probably read the second book when I get a chance.

The book to me ended up being slow to the point to where I just wasn't excited to read it.

2.5/5, I kept getting distracted and would go read other things, as I found the novel to be dull, and the characters uninteresting. I was expecting more based on the popularity of de la Cruz's other novels, which I was interested in reading. now I'm not so sure I want to read more, if they are anything like this. the plot seemed interesting, but the prose ruined any interest I had.

*Many Thanks to Net-Galley and the publisher for an advanced e-copy. This did not affect my rating*

I am sorry; I just did not like this book. It was not my cup of tea.
It is a mix of post-apocalyptic, dystopian, and fantasy. Frankly, none of it was done really well. Melissa de la Cruz has put out some really popular books, i.e. The Blue Bloods series.. and I don’t know if I want to try something else by her because I was so underwhelmed.

Welcome to New Vegas! Las Vegas, but covered in ice and it is freezing cold, like most of the rest of the planet. But the world building was pretty non-existent. I want to know more about the world, why is it the way it is.
Nat wants to escape to a place known as “Blue” where the sun still shines, and the ocean isn’t toxic. But to get there is extremely dangerous. Enter cute boy, and then cue feelings.

The plot was rushed, the characters were bland, the world isn’t really explained well at all. I can’t really recommend this to anyone, which sucks because I loved the premise.

This is the point where I kick myself for judging books by their covers...again. When I was scrolling though NetGalley I spotted Frozen and was immediately intrigued by the cover. I knew I was going to have to request it. What I didn't realize was that Frozen was downloadable to everyone. So I downloaded it. This is one of those books that I want to say I loved but I can't. It was meh. The idea was interesting but that is all this book had to it.

Frozen took me a week to read. I want to say that I was busy (which I was) but when I had time to sit down to read I could only get through a couple of pages. It didn't grab a hold of my attention, which wasn't a surprise because I wasn't a fan of Melissa's Blue Bloods series either.

I found the plot of Frozen was scattered and didn't stay in one place long. The characters were a bit flat and hard to relate to, and everything bad that could happen, happened! I would groan each time something came up because I knew it was going to have a negative outcome. When the ending came it was quick, and hard to follow. The overall ending though? I predicted it. Frozen didn't surprise me. The world frozen in ice did, but the story kept me hanging.

I  bought Frozen for the cover, namely because it has a dragon in it. I love dragons. I wanted a story about dragons. Also if its on the front cover one assumes it's going to be a main feature throughout the book. Absolutely not apparently. When I went back to review this book a few years after I'd initially read it, I could not remember a single dragon. Upon reading reviews to check this apparently there were dragons, and zombies, and pretty much everything else except the kitchen sink which is why I forgot about the dragons. And the single drakon that does apparently appear is actually an important plot point of the next two books in the series? My point still stand however as I swear most of the book goes by without one. To be honest I think I'm so negative about the insides of this book, because of my negative feelings about the cover. And I feel betrayed that it wasn't the dragon story I wanted.
