this wasn't really my thing but i can see why it's popular. it had potential and it was a fun read in that it was easy to get through but it's pretty much the book equivalent of a hallmark movie so i was fairly bored the whole way through. the writing just wasn't for me - the dialogue felt juvenile and the prose wasn't great either. i hated the pacing too because everything felt super rushed when it came to development between hannah and wyatt so i had no interest in rooting for their relationship. i didn't click with them in general and things like him overusing that damn nickname made their romance feel so forced. the main characters also came across like 10 years younger than they were supposed to be and not in an endearing way - they acted like immature teenagers and it was jarring to read considering the main character was 29.

some of the characters felt like cheap props (thérèse especially) which was really ironic in a book that preaches about diversity and inclusion multiple times; characters that are pretty much caricatures are one of my biggest pet peeves in writing. i could go on forever but to keep it simple it feels like a lot of characters written for representation (often the best friend/other supporting character) are super shallow and purely there to tick off a box - i guess it's not 'that deep' because the stereotypes were based on her being french but the way she's stereotyped reminds me of the way minorities in general are written as shallow overexaggerated caricatures everywhere i look. as well as being annoying it's also just very lazy and i'm tired of it.

Queen’s cove sounds like a DREAMMMMM. morning surfing, summer loving, found family.

“You can’t be shirtless in here,” I blurted out. “It’s a health hazard.” He raised an amused eyebrow. “A health hazard.” My face heated and I said the first thing that came to mind. “You could get hair in the books.” What? “I could get hair… in the books,” he repeated, rolling his lips to hide a smile. “Yep. Chest hair.” He snorted and I wanted to sink into this ugly carpet from the nineties. “Well, in that case, I’ll be going.” He turned and headed to the door, his network of back muscles moving as he walked. “Let me know if you find any chest hairs, I’ll come get them.” He disappeared out the door and I could breathe again.”

“Sitting on the board for a few minutes every morning before surfing was my salutation to Mother Nature. Thank you for letting me experience this. Thank you for not eating me.”

Bookworm 🐛📚

“I can’t… surf, Wyatt. I read and sell books. That’s all I do.” He let out a short laugh. “I know you can’t surf.” He shot me a quick wink and my stomach flipped. “I happen to be a surf instructor.” He waited while I stared at the limp wetsuit with horror. “But it’ll be cold.” He nodded. “Yep. Really cold. That’s why I’m wearing a suit too.” The thought of the frigid ocean hitting my toes made me want to turn around and go home.“

One conversation between Wyatt & Hannah to change her life before her 30th birthday, and it changes for them both.

“Mornings were for Hannah and me, though.“

“I always feel so much better after being out on the water in the mornings with you.” My heart squeezed. “The water will do that.” She shook her head. “It’s not just the water. I like hanging out with you. You always make me feel better about things I’m worried about.”

I ate this book up!! 🥰🥰😭 I love Hannah & Wyatt, Pemberley books, the surf shop, their friends and family. 10/10, read this book

The absolute definition of a spicy RomCom and I LOVED every bit of it!

The confident surfer teaches the quiet book lover to be a "hot girl" (her exact words), and in exchange, she helps him with his surfing career by upping his social media presence in hopes of going Pro. I adore Hannah & Wyatt's relationship and how they brought out the best in each other. Not to mention Hannah's relationship with her father strengthening by the end.

There is a specific after- camping scene that had me cackling out loud & will now live rent free in my head until the end of time. Honestly one of the funniest scenes that would've had me (personally) withering away on the next beachy breeze.

Please pick up this series when you need a good laugh because Stephanie Archer delivers. Every. Time.

I am very eager to pick up Holden's story next!!

WHAT TO EXPECT:
small town
friends to lovers
bedroom lessons
lots of laugh out loud moments
forced proximity
one tent = one bed situation
he takes care of her
"good girl" x9

“I like when you do things for yourself, and when you push yourself even though you’re worried or nervous or scared.”

Hannah Nielsen is a bookstore owner in Queen’s Cove, but as Hannah gets closer and closer to her thirtieth birthday, she starts to look at herself and wants to change. She wants to be braver, be able to chose herself, and after finding an embarrassing video online of Wyatt Rhodes she decides to ask him for ”hot girl lessons”.

Wyatt Rhodes is a surfer, wanting to go pro. However, it’s hard to find sponsors when he isn’t on social media. When shy Hannah asks him for a favor, and offers to run his social media he doesn’t pass up. Helping Hannah gain confidence in herself, and small little homework shouldn’t be too hard.

I preferred this romance to Emmett and Avery. Hannah and Wyatt’s relationship felt a bit more natural. They got to know each other, and once they got to know each other their feelings developed. I don’t have a lot to say about this book, or the series in general (even if I have only read half so far) but it’s an easy romance series. Nothing too deep, but not rom-com (my personal opinion, since they are technically marketed as rom-com).

Tropes:
  • Friends to Lovers
  • Small town
  • ”Hot girl lessons”

loved this. when i saw all the tropes for the series i was looking forward to this one the least but it topped the first one for me. i related to hannah’s character in a lot of ways. it was funny but it had a little depth in it. the spice was brilliant. all round a great easy-read spicy romance.

The conflict resolution felt rushed and the whole plotline with her dad felt off. Read this purely for the spice which was 👌🏼
