This did a very rare thing and surprised me. I almost go into Mafia books and expect the heroine to be meek and naïve, at least at the start, but Amelie had a backbone and knew how to use it. Not that she didn't go through it, because she did, and Luca didn't always do right by her, but if you're looking for a mafia story with a strong heroine, fast paced action and a hefty does of possessive alpha? Then you need to pick this up. I'm VERY interested in continuing this series. For real. I volunteered to listen and review an early copy of this on audio (narrated by the delectable Jacob Morgan and a favourite of mine Stephanie Rose) and all opinions are my own.

Listened to the audiobook and I enjoyed the narration. I feel like the narrators fit the main characters really well. The side characters had a big part in the story which was also a plus but unfortunately those were really the only things that kept listening. The story itself isn’t really dark and the mafia aspect isn’t a huge part of this book.

This was such an intense read.

The chemistry between the characters was something else and it was oh so perfect. The build up was great and you could literally feel the tension coming off the pages of the book. I was rooting for them from the very beginning. I was glued to the pages throughout the entire book and I simply couldn't put it down.

Looking forward for the next one.

Being the first book I have read by this author, I am really happy with what I read! It had passion, intensity, twists and so much more as this push and pull between Luca and Amelie. Circumstances beyond their control led to so many epic moments of ‘did that just happen’ with raw passionate and emotional moments that made my heart ache for both of them. But oh my stars, everything they both endured. I will give Amelie credit, she is a fighter. Especially with how she was treated to how things all played out. She broke free of those chains. I really wanted to hate Luca because of everything he had been doing to her, but in the end I just couldn’t. Things made sense in the long run but his wanting to be there for her and his care about her even though he knew he really messed up. He would follow her to the ends of the earth.
Overall, this was an intense story that kept me on my toes and I devoured it. I enjoyed the flow and watching the characters grow throughout. I am looking forward to what is to come!

Im an idiot for not realizing that Amelie is from Fallen Royals. Like holy crap.. totally didnt realize it was the same person. Now I really like her in that series. Its messed up. Lol

Regardless I really liked this story. It was great. Not my fave ever arranged marriage book but absolutely up to the S. Massery standards im used to.

4/5 stars.

Amelie is set to marry Wilder to connect their families. Except he’s killed at the alter and, instead she’s married off to his brother, Luca. After that, there’s violence and captivity and nonsense.

I can’t believe I finished this book. I think I was just so confused that I kept reading in hopes everything would be explained. Spoiler: nothing was explained.

The timeline was all over the place and the plot was confusing AF. Does Luca love her? Has he always loved her? Why? Why does Amelie keep doing the things she’s doing? Why is she so mad at Luca?

Add to that, two wholly unlikable MCs and it’s just a mess.

Great but

There are some continuity issues that irked me from time to time between this book and Wild Fury. First, the day of the wedding doesn't match what happened in Wild Fury, at that point Lucy was already in hiding and was whisked away immediately after the wedding, but in this there's a whole battle happening which is no there in wild fury. Also in wild fury Lucy is in hiding for 2 whole years with no contact with any family but in this book she is texting amelie during that time.
