I teared up at my desk when I reached the ending. This book is so good. Good good good. It loses half a star for a really awful courtroom scene (I counted seven things wrong in 2.5 pages and stopped counting) that made me put the book down for a day while I put it out of my memory. But the whole book. Everything else. So good.

Great sci-fi. The less you know about this book the better, in fact I think even the short passage on the back of the book reveals too much about the story. Each reveal hits so hard when you have NO idea what's coming.

A few other random disconnected thoughts about this book:

1. Some of the engineering /science descriptions were a bit confusing to me - if you feel the same, keep going. One of the things I appreciated about this book is that the author gives you some time to "figure out" how certain things work, but they're revealed to you more plainly in time. It was fun having the a-ha moment for some of these sections, but I was grateful in others that it was laid out more simply for others.

2. There's a scene in the third act of this book that is one of the tensest sci-fi scenes I can remember reading. I could literally feel my heart rate accelerating as I read it.

3. I would have definitely kept reading 500 more pages of this book. I was sad to see this one go.

Andy Weir has recaptured the magic of The Martian. I enjoyed Artemis but the book had enough to not like. The Martian was perfect and Project Hail Mary is nearly so.

Another space novel, this one has the main character waking up not knowing who or where he is.

I wasn't a huge fan of the ending. Not going to give away any spoilers. Just not the direction I would have liked. I felt there was 2 options the story was going and was surprised with an option 3 that just didn't resonate with me.

A great read and I look forward to more Andy Weir.

There has not been even one fully developed character in this story so far. After reading 20% of the book I don‘t expect this to change.
I need complex characters with complex behaviors.
The plot is good and science really fun.
