I thoroughly enjoyed this read! About halfway through is when it really started to hook me in, and I needed to figure out what was up. The way Willingham weaves all of the storylines together is borderline hypnotic. Not to mention, the writing itself is beautiful and the narrator of the audiobook killed it. The twists definitely threw me for a loop - I gasped at least twice. 

The reason why this is 4 stars for me and not 5: just a few times things didn’t feel SO plausible, and I didn’t love how a good chunk of the plot hinges on the “maybe this woman is just ‘crazy’” trope, even if Willingham is trying to reclaim something through an AFAB narrator and her very complex story. Still, I would definitely recommend this book to mystery lovers!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I couldn't figure out who took their son and my mind jumped from suspect to suspect.

I definitely thought it was her ex-husband, not his girlfriend! As a mother, I felt her anguish as she realized this stranger had been around her son and had a perfect opportunity to take him. It felt like justice to see the ex-husband behind bars for facilitating the kidnapping of the son he never wanted. Watching his "upgrade" to a new version of his wife every few years is sickening.

I rarely give 5 stars, and it is well deserved here!

This book dragged for the first half. I almost stopped reading because it placed such an ambiguity there that held out far too long. Towards the end, when the twists and turns finally starting making themselves known, I really enjoyed it!
