This wasn't a book I had ever even heard of until it showed up on my doorstep. Apparently I'd won it in a giveaway, and seeing as I had just finished my last book and this one looked interesting I gave it a try. If you know my reading tastes, it's generally easy to presume that if it's gruesome and creepy or downright graphic in it's thrills, there's almost a guarantee that I'll love it. In the case of this book, that love is a good and bad thing. On the one hand, this isn't a book thats gruesome or graphic despite aiming for the "creepy thriller" genre (as told by it's comparison to old Hitchcock on the cover). It is, however, pretty good at suspense so I'll give it a bump up for that.

Overall, it was an enjoyable and easy read but it didn't have that special "oomph" that would make me bump it up past 3 stars. Worth a read, but not a favorite.

Should you buy it?: If this is one that looks interesting to you, I'd say go for it! Especially now that I think it's been out long enough to have made it's way into trade paperback status meaning you can pick it up for pretty cheap.

Suspenseful, but heavily foreshadowed almost to the point of making reading the second half redundant.

I'm a big fan of the mystery genre. I can honestly say I enjoyed this novel. It was just a creepy, fun read. I really liked Ivy, and I loved that only knowing what she knew. I have read a lot of mystery novels where the woman never questions what a man tells her, and has an unwavering belief in his innocence. Ivy is not like that. She wants to believe her husband had nothing to do with the crime, but when the evidence mounts against him, so do the doubts in her mind. Ivy is a likable protagonist and a smart one too.

I can't explain why I gave the novel 4 stars without giving away the novel, and I truly hate spoilers. If you're interested in a fun thriller, this book is for you.

Somewhat predictable, but I still enjoyed it. Fast read.

Great book. Slow start but once it did start it was quite gripping. Kept having small hints that made me think it was going to have a slight paranormal taint, but it stayed normal (shame).

I can't say I was blown away by this book but I did like it. The characters were well-written in the sense that I was never annoyed by their decisions or dialog. Hallie Ephron does a good job writing people who act like people, not characters in a book. That said, the plot was fine; as others have said, it was pretty easy to guess the outcome. Nothing about this book blew me away. I think Hallie Ephron has an excellent book in her, this just wasn't that book.

I'm giving this book a comparative four stars, meaning it was better than any other of the suspense thrillers I've read from the SL county readers' choice book list this time around. It is truly a gripping novel. It only took me two hours to read, but those were two hours in a row because I really couldn't put it down. It was semi-predictable, but still a very decent suspense novel. Also, there was no gratuitous sex, which seems to be a staple of the suspense/thriller genre, but not a staple that I appreciate.

Ending leaves a lot to be desired--rest of the book is great.

A pregnant woman goes missing after she is last seen at a yard sale at Ivy and David Rose's house. Many folks see her entering the house with David but none see her leaving after.

Ivy is expecting their first child after having a miscarriage the year before she is very paranoid and is very cautious about herself now. She gets a weird feeling when she meets Madeline, first of all she barely recognizes Madeline as she looks completely different than school days.

When Madeline goes missing, police suspect Ivy and David and slowly the suspicion is drawn towards David as they find some evidences around the property.

The revelation as to what exactly happened was quite shocking!
