Fun little story of magical realism, but holy goodness does the MC need a therapist to work through the fact that she and her mother were enmeshed. And using a Lorelei Gilmore quote and having Lauren Graham narrate just drives the enmeshment home even more. Also,
Spoiler I'm pretty sure that cheating on your husband even though in your current timeline, you are not married yet is still cheating??? And like? Did it magically make her sex with her husband better? I little too tidy of a tie-up there, for me.

I casually binged the entirety of this six hour audiobook between meetings and calls. It definitely made the Monday after Thanksgiving break go by quicker.

If I take one thing from this book, it’s that I simply must get to Italy as soon as possible. I was living vicariously through Katy as she spends a summer wandering through Positano, Italy enjoying the beaches, delicious meals, wine, and so much more.

And… that was the majority of what I enjoyed. Katy spent most of the book grieving the recent death of her mother, fair. But she was border line obsessed with her mother and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at the constant reminder that Katy’s mom, Carol, was “the one great love of her life.” Maybe I don’t love my mom enough (sorry, Mom), but it was too much for me.

If you’re obsessed with your mom—or Italy, this book is for you.

I liked this book a lot. it felt unique but also gave eat pray love vibes which I loved. emphasis on the eat - the food descriptions made me so hungry. the relationship between mother and daughter almost made me cry because of how close I am with my own mom. the fact that Lauren Graham narrated the audiobook was the icing on the cake. there were some aspects of the book that I didn't connect with, such as the romance subplot. I came here for family drama and tears, not necessarily romantic relationship drama, you know?

Maybe I should just stop trying to read contemporary romance. I feel like every time I get disappointed. Then again I’m not even sure if this is a romance? It’s really focused in mother-daughter relationship and I found it to be very weird and super reliant which is maybe normal for some people, but I found it off putting. I think Katy was an unlikeable character. Her choices were very selfish and I couldn’t see any good traits in her. The only likeable character is her husband Eric and
Spoilerhe’s barley even in the book

The romantic interest is also not someone I would ever remotely be interested in so maybe this book was just not written for me in the first place. Also,
SpoilerI can’t believe the writer just allowed Katy to full on cheat on her husband and just get away with it and never tell her husband. I don’t care that it was in some weird alternate time traveling dimension because Katy did not know that and she thought it was present day reality. She cheated on her husband and that is just unforgivable

It’s cool that the hotel is a real place and the photos on google make it look very pretty so that’s a good thing for their business and that is the singular upside to this book.

Crying score: Why would I cry for her?
