Another enjoyable summer read about Salvo and his latest case, this one involving a body discovered in an illegal apartment. I continue to enjoy Camilleri’s commentary on Italian life and the scenes he sets. Here, he has you dripping sweat right along with all his characters trying to survive the summer heat and their own decisions.

Superb, I have to revise my last review, this one is now my favourite so far. Superb plotted story and wondeful mix of characters, humour and action.
A very interesting mystery and the ending I could see coming for the final act, especially when something was handed to someone.
This is all my Montalbano fix for this month, look forward to another 5 next month.

These books are always a lovely read. Spending time with the good Signore in Sicily is always enjoyable, even when the heat is insane and dead bodies turn up. I enjoyed, as always, the luscious descriptions of food and countryside, and the good times hanging out with the local police officers. I haven't read the books in any particular order, so I am curious to figure out what this installment does for our detective's love life overall. Well written, with good clues, and little tidbits of justice and thwarted justice along the way.

I adored Andrea Camilleri’s writing in this book. It showed a side of inspector Montalbano that I haven’t seen in the previous works.
The description of the heat had me feeling ready for summer. There was no plot twist that made this book a staple for me. Instead it was written beautifully from start to finish. I didn’t want to put it down!

This could have been the best book in the world and all I would have remembered is the thing about cockroaches. It's literally wiped my mind clean of any other detail about this book. From the two stars, I'm guessing it wasn't one of my favourites. I think the hight point of this series for me is still Montalbano using his underwear to drag a corpse from the sea and that time he got almost got shot in the colon. Good times.

Ten books in and Montalbano is as entertaining as ever, with an awareness of time and mortality that gives this outing just a little poignancy.
