I don't even know how to rate this. I had thought perhaps it would have something more than what I know from the Mickey Mouse version, but Disney really got it right. Quick little read. I was surprised, though, at how quickly Scrooge "gets it" and is ready to atone--basically with the first ghost. I didn't remember that from the cartoon.

As a kid we went to see A Christmas Carol at Ford's Theatre, and I was TERRIFIED of both the idea that people get SHOT there and the ghosts, which I found terrifying (I was 6 years old I think?).

read for the 2015 reading challenge: A book set on Christmas

I have to admit, I didn't want to read this, because there are so many movie adaptions of this book already; when I think of A Christmas Carol the image that pops to my head first is Bill Murray. It's not a pretty image, I can tell you.

But Dickens is surprisingly witty, I found. The moral preachings were a bit too much in my face, but the writing is nice and has a good kind of humor.

Who knows, I might even read more of his books in 2016

Story: 4 stars
Narrator: 5 stars
Overall: 4.5 stars

Review from 2013: A perfect rendition of a classic Christmas story which kept me entertained on my drive home for the holidays. Jim Dale is and will remain my favorite audiobook narrator of all time. Though it's hard to get out of the world of Harry Potter whenever I hear him, and I recognized some of the voices/accents he used in the HP books. But it didn't detract from the story---in fact, it added to it because it gave A Christmas Carol a totally new dimension for me as I imagined it taking place in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. ;-)
