What a unique and beautiful read this was. I had high hopes after reading HITCS, and Klune did not disappoint. This book reads flashes of thoughts, memories, and feelings. In addition to being extremely lyrical and poetic, the way this book was crafted often had me adopting the narrator’s emotions as my own. I was extremely invested in these characters and this family for the entire book, which really emphasized the experiences of grief, despair, and forgiveness that are explored and championed in this book. Very excited to read the next books!

Just wow. What a powerful book. While reading I felt like I was one with the characters of the book. Pack. I want to run with them.

I found the book a bit repetitive at points. The characters felt quite flat and two dimensional. Whilst some of the characters were likeable, I found that the main love interest didn't have much about him. The writing was sometimes quite cringeworthy and juvenile, and just full of things that I felt people wouldn't naturally say. I would have loved some more interesting females within this book, Elizabeth was well written but Jessie just seemed to be a plot point to advance the romance. I will say that the author seemed to write grief really well, it was incredibly touching. I also enjoyed the action sequences, they were fast paced and very engaging. A mixed bag for me - I won't carry on with the series but I will try the author's other works!

This was a really fun and fast read! This book has some interesting/fascinating takes and twists on typical wolf/ABO style dynamics. It was something new and fun to read.

I really like TJ Klune’s books, but this one didn’t hit the mark for me at all.
There’s a pretty uncomfortable age gap where Ox and Joe meet at ages 10 and 16, but don’t have sex until they’re 20 and 26. But Ox is constantly thinking about how they met as kids, and he also vows not to have sex with Joe until Joe turns 18. So you have this 17 year old Joe “courting” 23 year old Ox, and everyone is ok with this??! Also, Joe’s family knew that he would eventually get with Ox, even when Joe was 10 years old - because it’s “different” for wolves. Yikes. Creepy. It’s like they groomed Ox to be Joe’s “mate” when he got older. I couldn’t stomach a lot of the book because of that, and I probably won’t read the sequels.
