I saw the tv show first, and once I found out it was based off a book (Graphic Novel/Magna), I decided to read the books like I do every time I find out a movie/tv show is based off a book. I thought the books were gonna be a little different than the tv show like most of the time, but I was Happily surprised. The books and tv show are equally as good, and both of them transferred me into the world of Yuki and Zero. From the 1st book, a startling secret was discovered, and the author did an Amazing, fantastic job in carrying out the story. I love the art, and how the author was able to express the characters, along with the story's plot. I especially love how Yuki constantly explains things to the reader. Amazing book. Highly recommended. And hope you read the books and the Tv show. P.S the tv show didn't do episodes based off of all the books. So if you want to know the true Ending to Vampire Knight, you have to read the books. That's another reason why I'm reading the books, I want to know the true ending to Vampire Knight, because they didn't air books 11-19 on tv. And stopped with season two with book 11. Recommended for all readers, who live books, vampires, ages 8+, and even for those who don't like Anime, I hated Anime two weeks ago, and now I'm obsessed with Anime after seeing this tv show. I know some Anime is "bad" but this book doesn't show any "bad" stuff and is appropriate for ages as young as 8 in my opinion, unless you count blood as bad. Then ages 10+ But every Vampire fan is gonna need to see blood. 5 Stars Highly Recommended, ages 8+ in my opinion. Great story line, love the Art, and Characters. Can't wait to finish all 19 books, and I'm currently on book 3 as I write this.

Volume 2 of Vampire Knight is really Zero's story. He is a truly tragic figure. We learn at the end of volume 1 that when vampires attacked his family, Zero was bitten and is slowly becoming a vampire. Poor Zero. No one hates vampires more than him. Yuki promised to someday kill Zero if he gets out of control. Now we learn just how bad Zero really has it. He is a "Class E" vampire and will slowly lose all sense of himself. Yuki and Zero encounter such a vampire and it is truly terrifying.
Yuki sacrifices herself for Zero, in more ways than one. She isn't in love with him - or actually, I think she is, but she doesn't know it. I'm guessing that Yuki sees him as a quasi-brother and best friend. She will do anything to help him, even if it means killing him. Creative, giving Yuki comes up with some other solutions to save Zero's sanity, at least temporarily.
The Kaname/Yuki relationship is somewhat on the back burner in this volume. We still get a few moments where we realize how much Kaname cares for Yuki. She idolizes him and she is obviously very special to him. It's not entirely clear to me just how "in love" he is with Yuki. I think this will become clear as the volumes continue.
Another great volume that left me wanting more...

- I loved learning more about the vampires in this volume. The lore and hierarchy are very interesting.
- Why do mangas have to have the mentor that is flamboyant one second and super serious the next? This is popular in a lot of mangas and animes.
- It is hard to tell some of the vampires apart. They look and sound so similar.
- I am craving more!! I'm seriously hooked!

What can I say? A nostalgic read. I loved Vampire Knight manga and anime when I was a teen so rereading them now has been a throwback moment for me. I still love the character dynamic and the overall story of a school with a day class and a night class. Dividing the human and vampire worlds while trying to get them to also coexist. Ahhh who doesn't love a vampire read? It's still a cute read.

As with the first (and I bet with the rest), the set and content are great. We meet Zero's master (aka the man who trained Zero as a vampire hunter). Is Zero already losing his sanity as he knows the blood tablets don't work for him driving him t consume human blood? It is starting to pick up pace as we lear more about Zero and the Night class.

I've only ever read slice of life shojo, so reading it in a much darker setting, but still with its quirky protagonist, has been quite interesting! I think the anime will be really fun.
