The story
Kit and her two best friends buy a winning lottery ticket. When they win, the two friends decide to make changes in their lives but Kit is determined to keep her lab tech job, buy a home for herself and put down permanent roots in her chosen home town. When corporate recruiter Ben approaches her to join his Houston firm, she is not tempted by the job offer or the attractive package, but she is taken by the handsome guy making the offer. Ben is in town while helping his father who has had an accident, and finding love was definitely not in his plans.

My thoughts
Kate Clayborn’s writing consistently charms, with sparkling romance and special unique characters. This debut story is no different from those that followed. I loved the connection between Kit and Ben, the parallels between their lives and somewhat complicated family relationships. I love how they bond over found vintage hardware for her fixer upper home and putting back the charm into her run down home. It’s a bit of a metaphor for how they come to their relationship, and how finding each other helps them to find the best version of themselves. A gorgeous read ❤️

Science + home renovation + a unique setting + a wonderful romance = my love for Kate Clayborn growing exponentially. I’m so glad I went back to this series in her backlist! Can’t wait to read more.

Kit was difficult to like, she was whiny and made quick judgments without thinking through things even though she was know for thinking through all her options. *insert eye roll here* Ben was easier to like but i feel like we didn't get a whole lot about him. It was all just Kit, Kit, Kit.

This is the first in a series about a group of girlfriends who buy a lottery ticket on a drunken whim and end up winning enough to set them up for life. Kit is a scientist, and Ben is the corporate recruiter who is sent to woo her away from her steady, settled life. So many things I loved about this one--complex, fully developed characters with real family issues that aren't perfectly resolved, a secondary character with a hearing impairment, a STEM nerd heroine who is not an insecure virgin, and one of my favorite tropes--a reformed bad boy hero. Also one of the most serious "oh God he totally effed it up, how will they get together now" situations ever. I liked this one so much I binged the other two in the series immediately, and I’m here to tell you they’re all fabulous, although this first book is my favorite.
