I got the point about the way humans eat and they don't think about it in about the first 10 or so pages. After that I was just getting tired of hearing countless stories of lab work conducted on people's eating habits. It just got boring and I started not to really care and ended up mindlessly reading so I put it down and walked away.

This book is extremely interesting so far...I'm about a third through. I've heard about big bowls = big servings, eating until my plate's clear, and all that. Wansink shows through experiments done in labs around the country that even people who are aware of these issues overeat. That everyone thinks they are too clever to fall for it, but everyone does. He includes interesting tidbits from his studies.

Really enjoyed this it’s incredibly informational and full of good scientific experiments!! I gleaned a lot of really fabulous information from this book and appreciated all the well thought out and distributed information! Going to be 4/5 from me and I definitely think if you are looking for the science of why we eat the way we eat this is a must read!!

I'm currently really struggling to read, but I found listening to this very interesting book did help somewhat to get me out of my slump.

This was really so informative and fascinating. I didn't realise how easy our eating habits are influenced by our environment. I truly believed myself above this, but was so shocked at how many things I thought was my choice only to realise that it was really the things around me.

I love reading about different kinds of research surrounding food. The brain and food are such an interesting duo. I have a never ending fascination with them. This book has everything in it when it comes to mindless eating. Studies, testing, results, opinions and advice.

Wansink brings his readers his research on eating in an easily "digestible" format :) He starts by discussing how easy it is to put on extra pounds because of eating habits we aren't even aware of. In a later chapter the he discusses how the " nutritional gatekeeper" has a lot of control of food choices choices in the house. This is an especially helpful chapter for parents to help them remember just how in control they are of their children's diets. He ends with tips for mindlessly eating better. He warns that there's nothing in his book that will make the weight come off quickly. Instead he aims to help people take control of their food choices, and perhaps without realizing it lose a little bit of weight in the process. This is the 2nd time I've read the book, and it was a good reminder for myself.

interesting book about how much of our eating isn't about hunger (and how much of our hunger isn't about food). this description combined with the title might make it sound like a diet/self-help books, but it's not. instead it's an easy to read summary of social science research. the results of the studies lead to lots of useful tips to help reign it in a bit.

3.5 stars. Excellent ideas, told in a humorous way. However, by the end, things started feeling repetitive. Some of the science in it also feels dated. The good news is the book is relatively short, so it wont take too much time to get through. I'm going to implement a few of his ideas for eating.

Fascinating! This book is all about the environmental cues that lead us to eat more. It operates on the premise that when we drastically change our caloric intake we notice. Either we feel uncomfortably fully or deprived. However, we fail to notice increases of 100-200 calories a day, which is what leads to gradual weight gain over the years. By being aware of the environmental cues, we can alter our environment and habits in order to avoid weight gain or gradually lose weight.
