this book was so incredibly unserious 😠i mean, i was definitely expecting some quirkiness, given the title. but there's a line between quirky and cringey, and the author had no qualms about blowing said line up.
this is obviously a very humorous book—it's meant to provide entertainment and an overall sense of a good time. and don't get me wrong, there were some points where the jokes were tasteful and well-timed. but for the most part, this entire novel just felt like one big caricature—think if a disney channel show was turned into a book. cheesy, overdone, overexaggerated, etc.
the romance progressed really fast—by the time i got through the first third of the story, the MMC was already talking about making the FMC his wife. hello??? earth to fallon??? even worse, we didn't get any tension-riddled build-up before the two of them were already fighting the urge to jump each other's bones. not to mention, some of the MMC's words + actions were straight-up controlling and domineering. i get that he's supposed to be protective and whatnot, but the way he completely disregarded the FMC's discomfort put a bad taste in my mouth.
and lastly, the writing style... oof. it was fine, i suppose, but it was definitely giving wattpad circa 2013 (trust me, i would know). despite the mature subject matter in this book, i couldn't shake the feeling that it was written by a teenager. it was very basic, and while there's nothing inherently wrong with that, i just don't think it fit with the type of story that was being told. while reading the book, my brain was desperately trying to break through a cloud of dissonance.
(don't even get me started on the fact that the main character is named cinnamon 🤢 and her brothers? cumin and chili. maybe, with time, i could have forgiven the author's other transgressions, but i draw the line at stupid-ass names.)
if you have a higher tolerance for cringe than i do, you might actually like this book! while i do think it succeeded at being a lighthearted read, it just wasn't for me.

Lighthearted, trope-y fun, isn’t too serious and had all the goofy elements of a romantic fantasy without any of the drama
