Really solid start of the mist born series!! Loved the character development, worldbuilding, and magic system based in metals - allomancy. I’ll be very much looking forward to where the series takes Vin, Kelsier’s crew, and Elend as he tries to make their society better for everyone. In particular, Vin and Sazed (and maybe with some help from Marsh!) as they try to discern what the Deepness is and what happened at the Ascension.

I was not expecting the twist at the end at all!!

Also was weird to realize Sanderson teaches at BYU… that’s definitely a choice 👀

this was a perfect first foray into the cosmere! the world-building, the magic system, and the character development were all top-notch, and i'm already itching to read the rest of the trilogy.

This might just be my new favourite book of all time.

It takes some time to get into the groove of the world and the magic system, but the payoff is monumental. A brilliant, lovable cast of characters, excellent dialogue and banter.

The last 150 pages were INSANE, I was gripping the boom for dear life, I cried, I yelled, just WOW!

This book was also surprisingly philosophical, moments that explored mental health, faith and hope so effectively.

It works well as a standalone so I'm curious to see how the trilogy progresses.

The magic in this story is really cool. Fun and easy read. This is a big book but a great story, so it's easy to keep reading. I wish the ending was better, but there are still two more books, so I'm excited to read more! Could certainly use more female characters and female interactions. I think it passes the bechdel test, but barley, lol.
