This is such a beautifully written book.

The main characters are violently Irish and act exactly Iike teenagers. It's perfect!

Witches? Non-binary rep? Working against hate? What's not to love? Maeve goes through some great changes, and I love how the magic slowly seeps it's way into the story. It does take a while for things to get moving, but that's in large part because this is the first book in a series. Roe is fantastic, and I hope they become more confident in themself in the next novels. Also, Fiona is a queen. I can't wait to see where the story moves from here!

“I lean my head on his shoulder and wonder just how much easier life would be if I weren’t in love with Roe O’Callaghan. But, oh god, how boring.”

I really enjoyed the creepy vibes of this story, but I think perhaps I wasn’t the intended audience. It’s very…teenagery, which like, yeah, it’s a young adult book. But it’s also very drenched in the complexes and arrogance of the stereotypical 15-16 year old.

I enjoyed it, though! I like Maeve and her inability to express her feelings. I also liked Fiona, she was fun and made it a little more lighthearted.

I may or may not pick up the sequel.
