The Seventh Bride by T. Kingfisher

This is the second time I've tried T. Kingfisher and have noticed a sort of trend for me with her work. I really like the worlds she builds and the set-up for her stories but sometimes the actual execution falls a little flat or too anticlimactic sometimes. With this book specifically I enjoyed her authorial voice and humor but the actual plot lost me a couple of times. I think it also has a few tonal issues in terms of how it teeters back and forth from feeling on the younger side of YA then just straight up adult horror elements. Still was an enjoyable read for the most part and I am going to keep trying some of her other works since I do like the writing style itself!

I have been wanting to ingest a T. Kingfisher novel for a while now but am not a huge fan of horror novels (which is what she is most known for). However, she does write books that are fantasy/creepy/not horror. ;) The Seventh Bride was definitely a good time while reading and Kingfisher has a style that reminds me of Seanan McGuire. This book was on the shorter side and had some nice world building. The things that lowered my ranking were a lack of character development, loose ends, and uniqueness of the story. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will pick up more of Kingfisher’s non-horror books.

Would I Recommend:
Yes, I would recommend this to fans of:
- Every Heart a Doorway, By: Seanan McGuire
- YA Fantasy

Content Warning: gore, narcissistic and sociopathic behavior, child bride

Another fun adventure with T Kingfisher, I love how you either love or hate her books. I enjoyed this one, It kept my interest, really enjoyed the retelling, seemed a bit short to me, but that is just the way she writes. Felt the pace was fine, would have liked more lore and world building but that's just the type of reader I am.

In time of war and stress I turn  again to T. Kingfisher for some soothing escapism.

How can a blue beard re-imagining full of body horror be relaxing?  Leave that to T. Kingfisher.

You just know that Rhea will get all the support she needs to succeed.

Odd and interesting- reminded me of The Woodcutter. You’ll either like this style or not. Very atmospheric.
