The Right Wrong Number was my introduction to Katie Warren but not my introduction to MM romance. I’m quite versed in MM romance and erotica so I went into this book with certain expectations that I wanted satisfied. I am happy to announce that Katie did not disappoint!

Julian, aka Jules, is at the one year anniversary marking the death of his husband and love of his life James. His best friend, Nora, lives with him because he’s basically a barely functioning human at this point. Nora convinces Jules that he should “talk” to James to get through his grief. Jules decides to text James old cell phone number.

In enters Liam, who just got a new phone and a new phone number. Guess who’s? You got it! He has James old phone number and after a few text messages, he responds to Jules under the impression that Jules is a woman. When they meet in person though, sparks.

There is also a great storyline featuring Fishsticks, who was formerly James cat. The prologue and epilogue are told from Fishsticks point of view and it’s amazing. You will love Fishsticks and his antics!

The rest of the story… you’ll just have to read it to find out how great it is for yourself! It had everything we love in romcoms. Romance, witty banter, spicy scenes, and some drama. I absolutely recommend that you read this!

I volunteered for this authors ARC team and I was given an eARC in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Julian's husband died in a car accident, wanting to feel close to him, he starts texting his husbands old number.
Liam, starts receiving text messages from someone clearly grieving.
Intrigued by the person on the other end of the line, Julian and Liam meet. This starts them both on a journey neither one of them was expecting.

This was a heartwarming story, of love, loss and opening your heart again.
With a cast of great characters and witty banter this was such a fun read!

This book started strong and then lost me in the middle somewhere. I wish the characters had more time to be developed so a real connection between the reader and the characters could be made, but there simply wasn't enough time for that. Some of the MC's issues were glossed over and incomplete. He wasn't likeable, which disappointed me; I was looking forward to this one.

The entire plot and storyline of this book is phenomenal. Although it’s obviously sad in some aspects because we’re talking about Jules going through the loss of his spouse, but the author found a way to take a somber topic and give it a sarcastic undertone that makes the writing humorous and light hearted despite the grief the MC is going through.

Lots of steamy scenes

Julian is still in anguish after his husband’s untimely death when he texts his phone number to get closure. Liam receives the text and begins this fun, spicy romance novel. Both main characters are complex, and I found myself rooting for them. They both had significant character growth throughout the book.

I loved the LGBTQ+ focus of this novel, and all the spicy scenes were consensual and fun. I don’t read much romance, but this felt like the perfect summery book! There is also a feline side character that makes some great appearances. The novel was a bit repetitive but there are tons of fun dad jokes to make up for it. And a few of the scenes definitely had me blushing on the bus… you’ve been warned!

The book had a great premise which was in my opinion unfortunately badly executed.

The book is supposed to be about Julian (the main character) moving on, healing and finding love again after the death of his husband but it fell kinda flat. Julian is grieving his husband's death but all we know about the said husband is his name and the fact that he loved his cat. I think author's intention was to write an emotional book but it was just sloppy because we don't know anything about important characters to make any form of connection with them.

The main characters barely had any chemistry between them, moreover, I found all of the characters to be annoying and toxic to each other, especially the main characters' best friends.

Also, as a queer person, I hate the "suddenly gay for you and nobody else" trope. I find that it's quite common in books writen by cis het (fetishizing) women. It's unrealistic and stupid.

The only thing I did like were the two chapters written in the cat's point of view. I've never seen anything like it before and I loved them.
