Read this as a break from the novel I'm struggling though. Remember seeing it in the past but was reminded of it after seeing it on a list of Jeff VanderMeer favorites. Quick comic about the pitfalls of venturing into the wild. The art style matches the tone of the story perfectly. Portions of the book reminded me of a whimsical Area X.

the story is a fun one, but not that interesting. the creatures were somewhat fun and wiggly and that's all there was to it. the art style is not to my liking, here's the thing: I think this style is being used way too much on sites and is lazy and annoying. some think it has more of a pro feel to it, more of a clean and "artsy" (whatever that is) feel to it, and I couldn't disagree more. 2.5 stars

Stupendous! I love Jesse Jacobs work, and I’m glad I finally got around to this one through the library. He’s endlessly creative in his details, and this book, like all his others, is chock full of so many bizarre, grotesque, wiggly wonders. It would be enough to simply gaze at the many smaller panels, evolving cycles, and variations, but the story is strong, too. I love the safari adventure, and the characters along for the ride. Hard to say enough good things about this maximalist illustration, and I hope to add this one to my bookshelf permanently someday!

I wish I had been on acid for this. But I wasn’t. So it kind of felt like a waste.

At first I wished this was full-color instead of just green toned, but I realized it would become overwhelming. Strange, Jim Woodring-esque creatures transform across the pages, as a guide takes a husband and wife on a luxe safari getaway. Surreal in a dark way.

Sometimes I find it difficult to categorize my feelings/experience regarding a text, and Safari Honeymoon is no exception. The entire book is greens and whites. Jungle greens to completely surround a couple going on safari with their trusty guide. The husband is a big time rich asshole, and the wife likes to do yoga with her new squiggly baby monster pet she picks up after hubbie dearest guns down its mother. Then some other parasitic things happen. The artistic style reminds me of Adventure Time mixed with the graphic novel Ant Colony.
This book is quirky, short, and wonderfully bizarre and advocates for kinda' not bothering to go on safaris and bother the animal life, which I can get behind.
