Sooo much happens in every book. I’m excited to see where the rest of the series goes!

Just as good as the previous two installments of the series. We see less of the main crew; Holden, Naomi, Amos and Alex which is a shame... BUT the supporting characters are so strong and well developed that I can see that it's needed to keep the story fresh.
On the same note, our main crew are very much "locked in" at this point. I feel as though there needs to be some long term additions or, dare I say it, a death. The crew just feels too safe. They all get hurt and broken and injured but I felt as though I can always count on them being ok. That needs to be pulled out from under me; adding some vulnerability isn't a bad thing, particularly when developing what is meant to be a very dangerous situation.

Otherwise I really really liked Abaddon's Gate.
It made me feel very small multiple times, and knowing that by the end of this book the universe has grown and civilization is spreading further than before is very exciting. The politics between factions is still somewhat hanging in the balance too, but I'm excited to see where it goes when I finally get around to reading book four!

The pacing really sags in the middle but the ending solidified my enjoyment in the book. The least good in the series so far but only by a little.

Mars wants the Rociante back from James Holden and his crew. Holden agrees to take a documentary crew to the Ring. Ships from Earth, Mars, and the OPA have gathered in front of the Ring that the protomolecule created. When a ship from Earth is destroyed by Melba (aka Clarissa Mao), a deepfake video of Holden taking credit for the attack is released. When all of the ships enter the Ring, Holden has to convince everyone to follow (protomolecule) Miller's advice on how to safely get out of the Ring. I was really confused with the ending and what is going on with the protomolecule and the Ring. I thought Pastor Anna's character was too naïve and felt very over-the-top. The drastic changes in Melba's personality was jarring. However, I liked the addition of Bull and Sam. I'm looking forward to reading [b:Cibola Burn|18656030|Cibola Burn (The Expanse, #4)|James S.A. Weakest out of the series so far, but it wrapped up well. It almost lost be in the first 40% but I pushed through because I liked the other two. Glad I did, but I think Melba’s storyline could have been pretty much changed with a few details and she wouldn’t have been needed at all.

Her story might become relevant later on, I don’t know, but I really didn’t vibe with her story in this book.

I did like Anna quite a bit, and her take on the events. She was a good character to follow and she more or less carried the story for me.
