This book was absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking in so many ways. It was devastating to experience Iris and Roman being separated, especially since whenever they reunited it felt as though it would be the last time.

I felt the presence of the divine played a bigger role in this book, seeing as our characters were directly interacting with them. Their world felt both mundane and fantastical throughout this book, which carried over from the first book in this duology. Rebecca Ross was able to interweave the two seamlessly, and I enjoyed reading this tremendously.

Her prose truly made me feel connected to our two main characters, and I was captivated by their love for each other. They always found their way back to each other, but both had to suffer great personal losses along the way. Overall, this was a beautiful read that had me crying every other page practically.

I enjoyed this duology! The love story is very meaningful and the characters are interesting. The incorporation of gods into a WWII-esque era fictional country was very well done and unique. The small touches of magic were perfect. I found the ending to be slightly anti climactic but the story was still impactful overall.

i don’t fully understand the hype personally, i thought it was fairly boring and very anticlimactic… had to force myself to finish. if it weren’t for the emotional parts i’d rate it even less

This may be one of my favorite duologies of all time. The writing throughout each book is an absolute masterpiece; it’s raw, and captivating, and achingly-beautiful in a way that both breaks you apart and puts you back together again simultaneously. I went into it nervous that the conclusion wouldn’t hold up against book one, but the fear was unfounded. I absolutely loved every second; no notes - I will be rereading this story for years to come.
