Eddie Jaku touchingly recounts his tale of surviving the Holocaust. He manages to give a positive spin to the story through his focus on the help he received from others and the relationships that carried him through. Still, the story is filled with brutality and inhumane treatment. It’s a book we can all learn from.

Tears, tears, and more tears. Such an incredible story, of hope and love and kindness. Stories of the holocaust hold such a space in my heart. My beautiful grandparents too experienced the cruelty of the Nazi Regime. Also ending up in Australia just as Eddie did. Never forget.

This was a super quick read, and if it wasn't a non-fiction story you'd think the author made up too much craziness! The blurb talks about Eddie being an Auschwitz survivor, but he has to survive so much more! How any human could survive so much is a miracle. How anyone could survive all that and still describe himself as the happiest man on Earth is an even crazier miracle! It is also a horrible reminder of the levels of depravity humans are capable of. 😔 Overall though it is a book about the strength of humanity in spite of horrendous things.
All of our book club members enjoyed reading this and it led to some good discussions at our meeting.
