Extremly good book. Even while knowing the myth, i could still get immersed within the story and feel it in my heart. I had alot of emotions and avsolutely loved the book. It is a classic greek myth involving
Spoiler gods, hubris, known figures, tragedy and prophesies
while still feeling modern and fresh. I liked that you can start reading without knowing the myths or characters and still enjoy it because of the amazing and natural explainations

Okay. The ending of this book was incredibly touching, and i loved how the character dynamics changed throughout and you really felt like the characters were growing up, however, it took me AGES to get through all of this thing. It was iNCREDIBLY slow paced for the first like two thirds and then in the last portion of the book it suddenly went crazy fast and ten years passed in the space of a few chapters??? despite this, there is practically no plot during most of this book. I LOVED I THOUGH. the imagery throughout the book is incredible. I loved the relationship between Patroclus and Briseis and actually felt like (SPOILERS!!!) she just randomly died way too abruptly and she deserved way more.

this is my most favorite book of all time. it is so so so so beautifully written, it brought back my belief in humanity and love and broke it at the same time. if you are looking for, not a sobbing and tear filled sadness, but a empty sadness in depth of your heart that leaves you speechless, tis book is for you. another thing, i would HIGHLY recommend reading this BEFORE because this book is soft and intimate and Circe is so serious compared to it, you may not be able to enjoy The Song of Achilles and feel it to be a bit dilly-dally.

this is my second madeline miller and i think i would read absolutely anything she writes. just like circe the writing is just so fucking beautiful and she paints pictures with her words and writes emotions so profoundly so beautifully. ALSO the griefff ughh its j so so good. i dont think i will ever get over this book. it was so heartbreaking but just felt so right idk if that makes sense. i think the conversation at the end of the book that briseis had with achilles will always stay in my mind when i think of this book. achilles’ pride cost him what he loved the most. patroclus truly was the best of the myceneans. the only thing i kind of didnt like was the fact that patroclus had sex with the mother of achilles’ son. i thought that was weird and i didn’t understand why he did it.

Good story, but the writing is often very cut and dry descriptive. Very show over tell often, which is the style of the chosen narrative, told as a story from Patrocus point of view.
The story travels from his childhood until his late 20/ early 30s
It can get decently descriptive in the gore in the second half and often mention rape as well.

this book has caused me to kick my friend out of the bus seat next to me so i could ball up sideways on the seat and question my existence

Spoiler the starting of the story with patroclus’s childhood story to then meeting achilles and finding a home and finally to the dark and morbid camp near troy was so well blended i felt as if i was being floated along by the current of the story not drug along with inserted elements to move the story along
this could have been due to the nature of retelling a story, but i think it is also due to the writing used in this wonderful book

with all that said i really do recommend this book to anyone who wants a well written heart breaking love stroy to read
