Ugh idk….. I was so excited to read this book and felt extremely let down by it. Took a long time to get through it. I felt somewhat invested in their relationship but the writing itself was difficult to read for me (I lacked context of the history, some things happened so insanely quick, while other things draaagged on).

Part coming-of-age story and part mythical retelling, Miller manages to render her characters with intimacy and familiarity, while also maintaining the epic scope and nature of the source material.

This was beautifully written; full of gay love and tragedy. It made my heart hurt so good.

:'(((

Don't really know how I feel about this one, the ending was good I guess. The use of language made me care for the characters in the individual moments, but nothing about the characters themselves is likely to stick with me. Miller is clearly a talented author, I'll definitely be reading Circe soon if I get a chance

ok i have decided on 3.5 stars goodbye

"The best of the Myrmidons will die before two years have passed."

I do love these retellings since they give us so many new insights and perspectives to the stories and myths we've known since forever. And there are little things I enjoy more than mythology

I never thought that I'd like this one so much. I started it with so low perspectives and it really surprassed what I was thinkg. Seeing this characters development, especially Patroclus and the bond he shared with Achilles was particulary beautiful even if in the end they're downfall was Achilles pride and their love. It was heartbreaking to read!

"In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.”

I adore Miller’s writing style. This kept me intrigued and I enjoyed the book overall. It just didn’t quite have the impact I expect from a 5 star. It did stay true to the story I knew while keeping new Deion getting bored, and I did really like it and look forward to reading more from this author.
