This was okay. It was well-written, if trending towards the purple at times, and I was pretty interested in the story. But a rather abrupt jump mid-book and what seemed to be a purposefully confusing ending drove it down for me.

Lovely writing and an intriguing world/plot. It feels unfinished, though at a few stages

This story wasn't what I was expecting and I'm finding it difficult writing a review of it. I think it's an debut and the writing was surprisingly good. It's quite an different novel and I would definitely pick something else up by Paraic O'Donnell

I ended up having to buy this using eBay—no libraries had it! The writing is stunning—this is a beautiful, haunting, and atmospheric novel. I can’t give it 5 stars because, as others have noted, the last half gets a bit convoluted and seems rushed; little of the mystery is resolved although this may leave the door open for a follow -up at some point. Theo first half is nearly perfect.
