I knew somewhat of the plight of the Uyghurs, but this personal story of one family was both informative and heartbreaking. Seriously, beautiful prose and very much worth the read.

Really recommend this for those interested in learning more about the facts of life under the Chinese surveillance state and in particular for oppressed minority groups in China. This is super important work and kudos to Tahir Hamut for having the courage to publish this - he is not safe even in the US, and I’m sure those he loves in Xinjiang are in grave danger.
