The second half was MUCH better. The climax was gripping and satisfying. Just wish I got more Auduen and Isuelt.

This book had it ups and downs for me. At some points, it was giving me 5 star content and then others I was bored out of my mind. I think the good out weighed the bad on this one, and overall I enjoyed my time reading this.

Closer to 3.5. The first 200ish pages of this are incredibly slow and slightly boring as it’s all travel and no one is actually discovering anything or doing anything at all to move the plot forward. The last bit of it is a little more exciting as things are actually happening, but I still struggled to get through it as so much was going on since we follow so many perspectives and I felt like I couldn’t get enough information about anyone because we were never with them for long.

Not sure what happened with this book - perhaps it was me and my reading mood or the book - but this felt unfocused and scattered. We didn't get much of the Safi and Iseult dynamic which made Book 1 so compelling. New POVs and new focus made this book larger in scope but giving them all almost equal time meant that none of the POVs got enough time.

The audio was good and the writing itself is pretty solid. So even though I didn't enjoy this I am giving this 2 stars - it was ok. I would have DNF'd this but I understand that Book 3 is one of the stronger entries and this is just a blip in the journey. It feels like a placeholder book - as the author resets the characters - so I can see the next few entries being better.

Let's see - I will be continuing with the novella next though.

So, the beginning for this was a bit slow for me and I am not sure if that is because I was hella busy or because it was just slow. It did pick up and I read the last half in a single night. One of the reasons I loved the first book so much was the friendship between Safi and Iseult. Sadly, there was less of that but with good reason (and not nonexistent just less). I only hope that changes in future books. Safi x Iseult otpp (one true platonic pairing (idk if that's actually a thing but it needs to be)). The book is still great though. We get to see more of the Witchlands and get insight into how other countries work. We get to see interaction between Iseult and the Bloodwitch Aeduan which makes me excited for the 3rd book Bloodwitch. I hope we get some chapters of the Empress in the next book because I want to see more character growth from her. She seems like a badass but we don't really get to see much from her since we only see her through Safi's sections.

3.5 stars. Windwitch wasn’t as good as Truthwitch, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. For me, Vivia and Merik’s PoVs were the least interesting for me, and I caught myself skimming some of their chapters (at least in the beginning). Still, Dennard has created some well-rounded characters, even when the plot falls short. This one definitely feels more like setup for the following books, so I’m really looking forward to Bloodwitch.

This was so much better than Truthwitch. The plot was much easier to follow and there was a definite improvement in the world-building. The multi-perspective narration is very well laid out and each character's subplot was both interesting and engaging. In this book, I felt the focus was more on Iseult and Aeduan despite it being Merik's book. I should have liked to see more of the story from his POV. Also, I'm still a little confused as to how the magic works and some explanation on that would have been nice.
SpoilerI was really hoping for a Safi and Merik reunion too!
But otherwise, an entertaining high stakes adventure!
