A nice return to form and a suitable conclusion to the Ex-Heroes trilogy... or is it? Clines mentions there might be two more books in the series in the afterword.

New stories don't immediately come to mind for me since this wrapped everything up fairly tidily. The Big Bad is defeated and there are plenty of implications that the population of the Mount will grow and prosper. Sure, there are lots of challenges still to be faced, but there were so many revelations and mysteries solved that he'd have to come up with new characters beyond the main ones we've seen.

Although I enjoyed it, the book does have its problems. Primarily the set-up with Corpse Girl, whose memories reset whenever she falls asleep, is seemingly dropped by the end of the book. I expected it to play more into the climax, but it's forgotten. Not a big deal overall, but so much time was spent setting it up that I expected it to be more significant. I did like the ultimate explanation for Corpse Girl's condition, though.

The climactic battle -- c'mon, this is superhero fiction, you know there is one -- is quite good. Overall, I liked it.

It seems that every book in this series is better than the last so far! Clines' writing definitely improves with each book. I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

At first I was excited at the idea of a third book in this series. As time went on that excitement has dwindled along with the interest in the zombie phenomena of books. So if I had perchance came across this a year ago I may have loved it, but now it's more of an interesting read. I enjoy the world building and the super hero dialogues. Peter Clines knows how to develop his characters well, and he masterly weaves a great story. I loved his last book, 14. But this may have been one where it just came out too late for me. Blame it on all the mediocre authors who flooded the market with not even funny b movie type fluff. Who knows maybe next year as I steer clear from the crap I may get back into them again and revisit this and realize what an ass I was.

Another fun read, but the series is definitely starting to feel long in the tooth at this point. It has a number of stale, tired tropes and doesn't seem to display any sort of story arc. Just good guys fighting bad guys, which can be fun, but can also quickly get stale.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous editions, but I love the back-and-forth between now and then and still find the main characters interesting. A new "super" character is introduced and we meet a couple of characters from the first book again. I did not see the Corpse Girl thing coming. At all. And I'll admit after all the talking to himself Zzzap was doing, I expected him to be crazy. Instead, he was talking to a ghost...a little surprised by that. However, I hated Max and found it very difficult to believe that Stealth was talked into letting him hop into the dead body of a much-beloved citizen of the Mount.

Nevertheless, an enjoyable read for a long drive from AZ to CA and back again.

This third in Peter Clines's Ex-Heroes series made for the perfect weekend read. I know you're sick of hearing how sick I am so I'll just lay it out for you - I think I might have the zombie plague! Kidding, though it did feel like it. It's just a cold but it started on Christmas Eve and by this past weekend (when I was searching the TBR and settled on EX-COMMUNICATION) had developed into a quite painful sinus infection. I've got meds in hand now but am still not out of the woods. Anyway, we've been pretty holed up here what with being sick and it being freaking freezing outside and I've been reading lots!

Warning, there may be spoilers ahead if you have not read EX-HEROES and EX-PATRIOTS as of yet.

With Legion gathering forces outside their walls, the heroes of the Mount may soon have to come up with a new defense. Legion's war against the Mount continues as he develops more strategy in controlling the horde of exes that now call LA home. With the heroes on their side, the humans that live behind the wall have been fairly safe and secure until now, but political and religious factions within the population are starting to create tension. Things aren't helped when one of their own seemingly comes back to life and a new hero arrives with powers that defy everything they've come to know about the exes.

And yes, again, EX-COMMUNICATION made for the perfect read. Clines has created a cast of characters that readers come to love very quickly in the series. And any time one falls it's kind of heartbreaking! I kind of adore the way we keep meeting more of the heroes, too. Keeps things fresh. Within just a few lines, Madelyn quickly rose to the top as one of my new favorites (hubs loves this series and Barry is the one he's most fond of).

The coolest thing about this one, though, is Max. Holy Moly! I don't know what Clines has up his sleeve but I could devour a whole series of pre outbreak Max stories! I'll be happy with more Ex-Heroes installments as well :) (EX-PURGATORY is just out now. Rumor has it there is a possibility there could be one more. I hope so, so do run out and buy up the series if you haven't! Let's get some word of mouth going.)
