I finished reading this book this morning. The author, Lucy Foley, also wrote The Guest List. I read that book in 2020 and liked it. I was eager to read another book by her. The Paris Apartment is about a woman named Jess who is living in England and needs a fresh start. She asks her brother, Ben, if she can stay with him for a while. When she arrives at his apartment in Paris, he isn’t there. Jess is worried about her brother and tries to figure out what happened to him. The other residents of the building are not very helpful. The story is told in multiple points of view. The reader discovers the strange interactions Ben had with the others living in the building. The book didn’t become a page turner or suspenseful until the last 100 pages. There are many twists and turns in those last 100 pages

DNF @ pg 92

I liked the idea of the atmosphere, I hated the execution. None of the characters are likeable and the MC just wanders around getting into trouble instead of actually trying to find her brother.

It was all too drab and not in the brooding French way I would have liked. Or maybe it was too brooding that made it drab in all the wrong ways. Does that make any sense? ._.

I also accidentally spoiled the ending for myself and didn’t understand how anything up to page 92 relates to the ending in any way that would make me continue reading.

Loved The Guest List, thoroughly disappointed in this one.

A fun, atmospheric read with good twists and turns. Would be good for spooky season with some creepy moments.

So this books has multiple povs which makes it harder to connect to each narrator and track what the main character knows. I think multiple povs can be told well, but isn't here. There are too many pov switches and everyone is so obviously suspicious so I didn't really care for or fall for any of the twists at the end. Every page was more like me saying sure as whatever mystery had been revealed. I think an adaptation would be good. Like the story itself was good, but the storytelling made it fall flat.
