Una lectura llena de amor por el campo y por la naturaleza. La historia de Chris Guthrie es bastante trĂ¡gica por momentos, pero el lector queda maravillado con el rumbo que toma la historia y las decisiones de la protagonista.

I might finish this later this year but, for now, I just can't find myself in the mood to complete it - it is putting me in a reading slump. I will read some other things and hopefully come back to it later this year.

Although at first it might seem very sentimental and at times difficult to understand because of Scots words the author uses (the glossary at the end helps a lot), it is worth reading on. Chris Guthrie's youth and early adult years are described, and she comes across as a strong-minded and thoughtful individual, struggling through life like everyone in her community but at the same time she is set apart. The third and most of all the fourth part of the book namely 'seed-time' and 'harvest' offer an insight into Scottish farmer culture and how Scottish society was changed and disrupted by the first World War.

Appreciating that Sunset Song ranks high in the canon of Scottish literature (itself a rewarding pursuit), I've received a rich education from this book and gained insight into class, region, gender, socioeconomic and other tensions while also being deeply moved by the story. Tears on occasion, also sincere gratitude for the honesty and humanity of this writer. Now embarking on Cloud Howe...
