Oh how I've missed the Historical Romance genre, I've been reading nothing but YA & NA lately. Don't get me wrong I love those genres too but it was so refreshing to get back to an old favourite.

Firstly, I just wanted to comment about that cover, that cover is just stunning!! Gets major cover love from me. ^_^

This is my first book by Amelia Grey and it's definitely intrigued me to read more of her work.

Known scoundrel Bray, the Duke of Drakestone isn't one to sit back and be told what to do. So on one tragic night when a carriage race went terribly wrong, he was forced into a promise he didn't want to fulfill. Bray must marry the eldest sister of his challenger. Due to witnesses Bray delays for as long as he can until Miss Prim ventures to London for her sisters first season. Once Bray set eyes on Louisa, he thought the marriage thing wouldn't be such a bad idea but when his proposal is rejected, he makes it clear to Louisa that it'll be her proposing to him in the near future.

Louisa wants nothing to do with the Duke of Drakestone, she thinks he's nothing but a drake and will not appreciate her the way a husband should. Louisa is headstrong and enjoys looking after her younger sisters, after losing her brother she's had to take charge. Meeting the Duke sparks something in her that she's never felt before, but how can someone make you so infuriated yet so intoxicated by feelings at the same time?

This story was beautifully written, with fun vibrant characters. I was mesmerised from start to finish.

I highly recommend to all Historical Romance lovers, so go grab yourself a copy of this book, get comfy in your reading spot and enjoy! Be swept away with the writing style of Amelia Grey. ^_^

An overall sweet novel more than romantic. I really appreciate the two main leads and thought the premise was interesting. However the novel is a little thin in plot. I can’t say much happens which is why I only rated this as 3 stars. There is minimal interactions between the H and the h which is sad since I thought they were sole of the strongest scenes. This could be because the novel is shorter than average. At least it felt like it. There was space wasted on scenes with the chaperone, with the duke mother, with the duke’a friends which could have been dropped for more scenes amongst the leads and between him and his sisters.

On a positive note the writing was good and I appreciated the attempt to keep this plot simple and characters honest. The fact that when the leads wee together, they actually aired their grievances was fantastic. As an example, the duke is clear that there are bets on the marriage. There is no “lying for your own good “ time here which I appreciated.

I have not read this author before but this was good enough for me to give more of her work a try. A strong 3 stars overall.

New to me author in a fun, funny start to a new series. Bray Drakestone loves a good bet but a death bed promise leaves him with the hardest challenge he's ever had to face, a promise to marry a friend's older sister. Except years pass and Ms. Louisa Prim is still unmarried. Louisa has no desire to marry Bray, she just wants to make sure that her four younger sisters are happy. Falling for Bray is not at all in her plans but the better she gets to know him, the easier it is to fall. Louisa is just another bet to him but Bray is falling just as hard. Can these two hardheaded individuals open up for a chance at love? I really enjoyed the banter between these two, definite sparks popping of the page. Good read!

Nando's Spice Rating: Wild Herb

Kind of forgettable but I did enjoy this book.

I loved the dynamic between the sisters. The concept was a bit unique but I think it could have played out with a lot more drama.

The ending bothered me a lot since it was rushed and it could've had more complexity. I also thought the romance was a bit lacklustre; there could have been a lot more seduction.

Although Grey has been writing for some time, I have never read her romances before. Many of them are written under the name, Gloria Dale Skinner, and are set in the American West. I don't usually read that type of romance.

Something led me to this story and I am glad. Grey has written an interesting book that kept me reading on a lazy day at the beach. I thought I was going to nap, but I needed to know that Bray and Louisa did make it to their HEA.

Good chocolate ice cream, good hot fudge and lots of whipped cream.

This was fine.

As I was listening to the audiobook, I enjoyed it but then when I finished it, I mostly felt 'meh' on the story as a whole.

Louisa is the eldest sister of 4 girls, her parents have been dead and her brother died 2 years ago. Now the man that was with her brother at his death and who her brother begged to marry her is now her guardian because her uncle gave over guardianship and left town without a word. Bray doesn't want to marry anyone, let alone Louisa but he is shocked when he goes to meet her and she doesn't want to marry him.

There were a lot of tropes and other things in this book that I normally love in a romance but at the end of the day I felt very little romance between Bray and Louisa. Yea, they kissed a few times, but I never felt like they were really interested except to kiss a few times.

Two aspects I did really like about this though were one, the sisters. They were fun and I just loved the scenes where the younger ones were in the room. And two, I liked that Louisa rejected Bray and stuck with that for a while.

However at the end of this I was pretty ambivalent about the story as a whole. I don't see myself continuing the series but I do think I will read another book by Amelia Grey and give the author another shot.

Louisa is clearly the weakest part of this novel. Half the time I loved her and the other half she annoyed the hell out of me. Bray deserved a better heroine to his hero. The plot itself I really enjoyed, along with the other characters. The main plot feature I didn't like was the involvement of the Prince-- it added an unnecessary layer that started to become too much of a focal point as the story continued. Staying with only Bray's promise to the brother would've been the better choice.

Thoroughly enjoyed the romance and the sizzle between the OTP. Not a big fan of the virginal miss trope, but I do love me a reformed rake. Already started the second book before I reviewed this one. Also, Miss Prim and Proper is my favourite nickname for a character ever.
