That was a really fast book! I read it in an hour. This is a re-read for me, but it's been so long and I couldn't remember how it ended. But it was cute and I really liked it! 4/5 🌟's

This just might be the most ridiculous book I've ever read and it's certainly a top contender but the sense of humor actually really did appeal to me. I didn't think that the humor in this would be my type of thing because it just sounded dumb so I was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed the book. Normally, I'm not a "potty" humor kind of girl, but I found that the jokes really stayed on the silly side more than the gross side. The moment I realized that I probably would enjoy the book was right at the beginning:
"George and Harold were usually responsible kids. Whenever anything bad happened, George and Harold were usually responsible."
This is the kind of humor that is absolutely my favorite. Any kind of turn of phrase or subversive wording gets me really tickled.
Good job surprising me Captain Underpants.

It was Banned Books Week last week and I read a banned book - The Adventures of Captain Underpants! Laugh out loud silly. Glad to know that Dav Pilkey is in the same stratosphere as James Joyce.
This book was the number 1 banned book in the US during 2014 because of offensive language, unsuited to age group and violence..... What? I'm not sure who these people are who banned the book based on those criteria. And it is perfectly suited for little boys in 4th grade. If you want to read it too, borrow it from your 9-year-old son/grandson/nephew - you won't regret it.

I admit that I'm a bit of a book snob at times. I had no plans of EVER reading these books even though they are quite popular with the students that visit my library. But recently I had an assignment for a librarian training course I'm taking right now that asked me to read a book that adults think is "trash" but students love. So, of course, this is the book I picked up.
I am happy to report that I enjoyed it despite it's talk of underpants and a slight bit of potty humor. I can totally see why kids LOVE these. Who wouldn't want to read a book that has lots of illustrations, has the above mentioned ingredients, and main characters that get away with pranks played on the school and principal? Am I right?

I have been recommending this book for years, but I don't believe I ever actually read it until today. It was absolutely hilarious and clever and I am so glad I finally sat down and read the whole thing! Highly recommended for grades 1 & up.
