This is an excellent sequel to New Kid. The issues presented in this book are relatable, or should be, to everyone. As a middle school librarian, and a promoter of graphic novels as "real books" I am adding this to my must read, recommended list right along with New Kid. You don't need to have read New Kid to fully appreciate this book, but New Kid did win the Newbery Award for 2020, so if you haven't read it yet, what are you waiting for? Then you will be all set for Class Act. I will be anxiously awaiting Mr. Craft's next book, whether it stars Jordan Banks or not.

Craft's sequel to New Kid, following the kids at RAD as they come of age and LEARN about important stuff. The cluelessness of the adults was awesome. I hope there's more of Jordan Banks to come; I know kids love these books, and rightly so.

This book is one of my new favorites. I read it during silent-reading time in class, but I wasn't very silent as I read because Craft's characters kept me laughing out loud throughout the book. Despite it's fun style, this book deals with very serious and sensitive issues. I appreciate that issues of racism and classism are presented in a way that is very appropriate for middle-school students, but I believe teachers should read the book too. I feel like I learned a lot, and questions that I was nervous to ask were answered in a way that made a lot of sense. (On a side note, I appreciated the jab at teachers saying graphic novels aren't real books. This book is as real as they get.) I am definitely recommending Class Act to my students this year!

Jerry Craft is the best. I'm more than happy that this series exists for younger readers. This was a pick for the 2023 Realm of Comics book club so if you're interested in knowing more of my thoughts please check out the video: https://www.youtube.com/live/LzO9lK4B0tk?feature=share

Should be required reading for anyone who works with kids.

Also, the part where Drew points out that the adults want diversity for their kids but not for themselves ... just ... wowww!
