I have mixed feelings about this one. The plot made a lot of sense but I was bored. It took me a long time to read because I never felt compelled to pick it back up. There were a lot of moments/jokes where I laughed audibly and I really enjoyed those, but I think that's the only part I liked? Actually I really liked Death's arc, and the use of formatting to denote how someone was speaking (that's super vague but it would be a spoiler to say more) was really interesting and effective. I didn't find the style of writing compelling and the stakes felt very low because I knew everything would work out at the end. I think it will be a while before I pick up another discworld novel, even though I find them charming and very funny.

What an incredible read. The writing style is so charismatic, and there’s a certain level of occasional unserious-ness that makes you feel so close to the book. There’s humor, there’s intriguing fantasy elements, the premise is very thought-provoking (with a dash of silliness). Mort’s conundrums and growth are incredible to read.
The descriptive wording often makes me feel like I’m watching the movie play in front of me rather than reading, especially at the last third of the story. My first introduction into Discworld and I can clearly see why Terry Pratchett is so beloved.
