I appreciate how genuine and raw she is about her experiences. I lost a parent during the pandemic and have the shared experience of having to make the decision to not travel. It’s validating and healing.

I’m so glad I read this but my gosh what a heart-wrenching memoir. This was such an emotionally stirring book, I really had to pace myself with it. 💔

"I have always felt as though I have something to prove: I have to do more, be better, to make other people’s gifts and offerings worthwhile; to earn their care or justify their faith."

Gorgeously written and absolutely devastating memoir of grief and loss. Chung’s father passed away at a time
when she couldn’t afford to provide more support or visit more often; just a short time later she was kept away from her mother’s final weeks and days with the onset of COVID. I identified most with the crushing guilt of living far away from family, but Chung’s depictions of her losses and ongoing grief are just stunning.

audiobook - this was a beautifully written and shared story, though a heavy choice for me as an only child of two chronically-ill parents lol. very heavy for anyone I think, and though it's a little hard sometimes to stick with these types of books and stories that don't bring a lot of joy to read/listen to, I do think it's comforting and important to share these, especially pandemic stories, because it's important to validate what we went through as a collective, and on our own personal levels as well.
