I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The imagery was playful and the characters were lovable.

This book was so charming, whimsical, and sweet and just felt like a hug.

Wow - was not expecting this book to show up outta nowhere and end up being my favorite read of the year. Nor have I expected my black heart to love such a sweet, comforting book this way.

It's like if Roald Dahl wrote 1984. It reads like a Pixar movie. It reads like Tim Burton's better stuff - Big Fish comes to mind. It's uplifting, wholesome, and fills you with all the fuzzies. The characters are so endearing, and if there's ever a spinoff written about Lucy's adventures growing up I will throw all my money down at it right now.

Also, very refreshing to read a story with gay male leads that isn't about our trauma or exclusively about being gay. There's a whole story here, with a believable romance between two characters who happen to be gay - but there's much more to them and the story than just that. I love that they're middle aged. They're not a couple of sex Adonises - one of them is struggling with his weight. Nothing wrong with those sorts of characters or stories, but it's nice to have a broader range of representation. A lot of us are just quiet bearded men that are content to read at home with the cat.

"You’re too precious to put into words. I think … it’s like one of Theodore’s buttons. If you asked him why he cared about them so, he would tell you it’s because they exist at all.”

Sums up how I feel about the whole book ^

More of this please. Looking forward to my next Klune read - very excited to have found this author!
