I was not impressed. The description of the murder was actually over done. The story line was jumpy, choppy... it didn't flow together. The characters were hollow. I just can't get behind this writing.

Wow
This was gruesome, open & raw. But I couldn't stop. I ID'ed the "bad guy" pretty early on, but it didn't really matter - I wanted to finish. I'm not sure if I can really recommend this to anyone - gruesome, raw ... - but it was pretty good

Dark, dark, dark. And--it feels like a first novel. Not because the writing is less than compelling--it certainly is an amazingly good first book. But because Slaughter packs so much into 300 pages, introducing and fleshing out characters, sharing detailed backstory, crime on crime on crime. All of it splattered with gore. Plus sex. She pulls out all the stops, which makes the book feel a little too hard and fast.
It's a very good book, however. Glad I finally got around to reading it, after reading a half-dozen books that depend on the foundation of this one.

This was a fabulous beginning of a series. How am I just finding it? Thanks to my mom for recommending, and I will surely give other readers this gem of a recommendation as well. It has everything: perfectly flawed characters, raw emotion, fast-paced intrigue, and of course the need to read more as soon as possible. Awesome book Karin Slaughter and a huge thank you from this reader.

Holy shit, Karin Slaughter's writing freaks me out so much that I had to start reading a love story before I could fall asleep last night! Whew. Amazing. I adore ADORE Sara Linton and I wish I would have read the Grant County series prior to reading the Will Trent series, but that's ok.

I am fast falling in love with Karin Slaughter. Many may find her writing style to harsh to read as she is very graphic in her details. for me, it is the gory details that I love.

I really enjoyed this novel. It felt like what it was, any introduction to a town and group of people that I will meet again (hopefully). Like with the last book I read of hers, some of the scenes a pretty rough but I made of sterner stuff. I didn't care much for the character of Lena but by the end, I didn't hate her. I thought the lodge men were reasonable and believable. Good book.

The book that started it all - i love the tension between Sara and Jeffrey, all of the characters are introduced really well to start the series. Also extremely dark and twisted; this is a truly brutal story - I wish they explored the religious aspect a little bit more since it really inspired the killings and the coincidence with Sara’s past being introduced made it a little chaotic but overall, this one holds up well.
