I read this because I love the show so much and wanted more details that are often always found in books. It was interesting to see how different the show was from the book, details of which I shall withhold in consideration of spoilers. Yes, there is the infamous rape scene and while it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I chose to forget it just as I did with the show. However, let us not forget that there is a scene before this where Simon (spoilers ahead), suddenly becomes this abusive man against Daphne and that was extremely difficult to bear. I don’t see why these traits and acts had to happen outside of a need for dramatization, couldn’t the author have chosen something more respectable?

As for the true to history details, I’d say it’s pretty accurate.

That girl raped this poor man, tried to trap him with a child that he didn’t wanted in the first place and still managed to give him the feeling that he was in the wrong. For me Daphne is a villain
